Hi
Thank you for those who nominated me. For those of you who I haven’t had a chance to meet in person, a little about me.
I am married to my wife, Lisa… aka wifeyole and we have three geocaching Oles (lilole age 7, 00Ole age 6 and JrOle age 4). We live in Waukesha, which has hosted a number of geocaching events over the last few years. My wife’s brother, who I’ve been friends with since high school, introduced me to geocaching in 2009. Lisa gave me a Delorme PN-40 GPSr as a wedding present and I started caching regularly in the fall of 2010. I’ve enjoyed so much about this hobby. I love chasing the golden oldie caches. I love finding and hiding event caches. I love the thrill of looking for a FTF. I love that geocaching gets my family and I outside to enjoy all of what Wisconsin or wherever we travel to has to offer. I love the friends I’ve made and the people I’ve met at events throughout the 10 + years I’ve been caching. I’ve really enjoyed attending the WGA picnic and campouts over the last couple of years throughout the state.
Over the last eight years, I’ve organized and co-hosted a few events in Waukesha. I started the Waukesha Road Rally geo-competition in 2012 and have held every other year since. In 2018, Chris (Walking Adventure) expanded this event to the Fox Valley.
I’ve helped AuntieNae organize and hide for the Waukesha Winter Janboree over the last 5 years. This year’s Janboree (which is on January 23rd and you should all come!) may have the most caches of any previous event thanks to many hiders from SE Wisconsin pitching in.
Lacknothing and I also resurrected the very popular Gifted Snowbuster Event (a white elephant gift exchange) last year and this year. This event was originally created by GR8eyes and was kept going through the past 13 years by AuntieNae, Blue Crow Expedition, TomK and many others. The next event is January 10th in Waukesha! I hope to see some new faces there and put faces to new names.
I work as an inpatient and ambulatory clinical pharmacist at a hospital in Milwaukee. I also enjoy traveling whenever I can, Packers football, craft breweries and annually continue a Norwegian tradition of making lefse with my family.
I’ve been impressed, among other things, with the board’s creation of the State Park series and the re-promotion of the Lonely Cache Game. I would like to expand on both of those with the expansion of the current state park caches to include other state properties and also to add — or replace if necessary — caches in our current state park series.
I’ve been more active in the Lonely Cache Game this last year than any previous year. Its success has been due to promotion on Facebook. I would like to see more discussions on other WGA games and initiatives on the WGA Facebook page.
Overall, I’m just excited to be more involved. I think the current board, from the outside looking in, has done a great job. I especially am appreciative of the transparency with the board meeting minutes and willingness to get members at large on committees to get more input.
Please feel free to message me at [email protected] (yes, I still have an AOL account!) or contact me through these forums with any questions. I am also on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/chevyole). I will try to respond to everyone.
Take care and see you on the trails –
Mark — chevyole
