Why do people get so offended by posts made by other people on these boards?

It has always been my understanding that the boards are meant as a means of discussion. That topics of geocaching could be put out here and people could talk about their thoughts and feelings freely. So I don’t understand why so many people get so dang upset when someone has a different opinion than that of their own. It seems to me that if there is a question, it should be allowed to be asked without worrying about whose toes will get stepped on in the process of acquiring the answer.
I personally find it quite humorous to get on here and post some smart “donkey” reply to many posts just because I can tell that one or more people are already ticked off. I’ve been told that I’m bad, and that I love to fuel the fire…I suppose this is true, but if things weren’t taken so personally than I wouldn’t have the opportunity to do any fueling. Besides…wzbt03’s been quiet lately…someone has to pick up where he left off. Jeff, where are you? Help me out here!

You’d do well in the main GC.com forums…

I think it’s a factor in all message boards. For one, tone is hard to read. But mostly, those who are especially defensive are usually reassuring themselves they’re right, rather than having a conversation.

    What is just a hobby?

    Geocaching?
    or
    Using the Message Board?
    or
    Ticking people off on purpose?

Just so this is perfectly clear ….

I want it official noted in the WGA records, that I started this whole “Meaningless Question of the Day”. I think that in history, the name “Ron of EnergySaver” and “Meaningless Question of the Day” should have a meaningless but permanent link.

Dare I say that some day, in the far off future, that when someone asks a meaningless question (outside of this pre-arranged daily method of course), that others might accuse that person of being a “Roner” or an “ESer” or something. How about this … “Meaningless Ronsense”!

There are facts, and then there are opinions. Facts are something that can be proven. Opinions are based off personal beliefs or feelings.

We can live life being rational, and base our decisions on what is true and what is real. or we can live life believing something, which might be untrue or unrealistic.

There are also those among us who are unable to develop a manner of living which demands honesty. But we should not shun these sick people, for we are all sick to some degree. Treat them as a sick person should be treated.

In life, our troubles are basically of our own making. Often, we will believe something to be true, but because others fail to see things the same way, we might feel offended or disregarded.

In places such as these, you cannot see the look on my face, or hear the tone of my voice. Often, these things may mean more than the words which I speak.

It is because I am self-seeking that I wish to be accepted, respected, and agreed with.

But I will hold no resentment, and will remember that on this earth I am only another much like you.

Did anyone else notice that MB started this thread by both asking and answering her own question?

I did, but then I know how much she likes to talk to herself. That’s how she knows someone is listening. Oh wait, this is me now…hee! hee!
