Does anybody out there that does NOT use a PDA/Palm/Etc to go “Paperless” … use the Pocket Query and Spinner, just so they have a their own little local “web world” of geocache listings to pick through and print?

I’ve been playing with all the software, while awaiting my Palm Zire 31 to arrive. I’ve noticed that I really like the localized bunch of web pages it creates … and how they are indexed and searchable by name, waypoint, type of caches, etc … you don’t get all that in the real Internet world version of things. I really wish I given this a try sooner, even with out a Palm it seems like it would make picking your caches to print easier.

Try Columbus caching – no sheets, no clues, just L&L. We don’t know where we are going, or what to look for {Just like Christopher).
This adds a whole new level to the fun. And no paper!

I am oftentimes a Columbus Cacher — not always a successful one though. I sort of like the idea of just going out there looking for “something”.

I do try to memorize as much of the cache page as possible though…

I hate to say it but I like my paper. My son and I take some notes on a Post It when we get back to the car and stick it on the cache sheet. It’s our “diary” of sorts. The cache sheets are in page protectors in a binder so we can stick our photos or momentos in there too.

Even though I’m excited about the Palm that’s on a truck somewhere, some day to reach my house … I too like the feel and comfort of the paper in my hands and the memories that come with the cache stains and rain/snow spots … not that I save them in a scrap book, but until I toss them out in a few days. I still have one from one of my favorite caches from way back in July … “Ring of Power” in Sheboygan … it’s got the coordinates to the final written on it, just in case I want to take some one there some day. Some kind of stain in the corner … I think it’s from eating at the Chineese Buffet in Sheboygan afterwards with “Chillsx3” who join us on the hunt … gosh that was a fun evening!

Not paperless here… we have saved everyone and have created a log page that is journaled all about each cache with a photo included. We keep wondering if we should stop creating these binders full of our geocaches but we enjoy reliving the adventures everytime we look through the binders.

we’re not paperless either. i figure we don’t look geeky enough with the gps hanging around one of our necks, backpack on back, hiking boots, little bag of swag, etc., while looking over our shoulders ever two seconds to make sure we aren’t being watched, as we are kneeling down on small, sharp stones hanging off a bridge over a small, rocky creek, looking for a small, magnetic box hidden somewhere in one of fifty seven crevices……..so we also carry a pocket pc. it completes the picture.

i’ve used paper, and i like doing so, however i’m not able to be as “spontaneous” as i can with the pocket pc.

of course, it’s always important to remember that a paperless caching is not as useful as paper caching when nature calls.
