Those of you who attended last year’s “Sweet Treat” event in central Wisconsin may remember that we lost area cacher Allen Braund, part of monkeyman81, to leukemia not long before that event. His wife and caching partner Mary will not be able to attend this year’s event (GC4082K) because of a memorial blood drive that will be held in Wisconsin Rapids that day. She asked that we share this information with fellow cachers who may wish to donate blood that day before comng to the event in Plover and/or who may know of others who would like to donate.
The blood drive in honor of Allen will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, from 8:00am-1:00pm at the Elks Club – 430 West Jackson St., Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494
You can get more information on the Facebook page for this event here: https://www.facebook.com/allenbraundblooddrive
As regular blood donors, Mark and I know that there is always the need for donated blood at all times of the year. Many of you donate in your own areas on a regular basis or when you can, but if you haven’t gone for a while, consider making a stop at your local blood center in the near future.
If you have never donated blood and are healthy enough to do so, maybe you can make a gift to yourselves and to others this holiday season by donating your first pint. I never gave until I was over 40. I was scared and afraid to do so, until one day I just said to myself, “Do it!”, and I did it. You can, too!
For the memorial blood drive on January 5, you will be donating BEFORE you attend the “Sweet Treat” event, so ingesting blue cupcakes won’t be turning the blood you donate purple!
