Silver Fox,I removed your message from the thread “Travel bug holder” because it was too far off topic.
Since you are new to geocaching, we understand that this is unfamiliar terretory. The Forum you entered here is a Wisconsin users group forum. You certainly are welcome, but it might be mor appropriate for you to be starting at the beginning…
http://www.geocaching.com will take you to there. At the left side of the main page, you will find a button marked “About Geocaching” that will take you to a wonderland of information assembled for people who are new to the sport. There is a glossary, and explainations, history, etc. All the stuff you are looking for.
At the right side of the main page you will find search options: by zip code, state, etc. There are links to the general forums where the right GPS has been discussed. You may also be able to find a user’s group that is closer to home.
To answer your question about GPS, The sporting goods guy (gal) at Target may be in a better position to answer that. Individual preferences weigh heavily here. For starters, most cachers would suggest cheap. Something around $100 should be a good starting point.
An explaination of what a Travel bug is might best be answered by exploring the Travel bud pages on geocaching.com
“Silver Fox” is the handle currently being used by an active cacher in UK. I might suggest a variant of the name if this is how you want to be called… “Silver Foxx” or “Silver Fox 2” might work.
Thank you for visiting our pages and please come back again to tell us of your progress.
