Quick question for the urban micro hiders around. Do you know what metal brackets on sign posts are used for? Not the part that holds up the actual sign, or the sign itself, but an additional bracket.
I’m guessing they might be for temporary signage, but if they’re going to sit empty, I have a perfect idea for them.
Thanks in advance!
When the WGA had their stretch of adopt a highway, the signposts that we hung the “road crew ahead” signs had additional brackets for the signs.

So….not a good idea to attach a cache to the bracket?
I can’t even picture what a bracket on a sign looks like. There’s a pole, there is a sign, and there are bolts that attach the sign. What bracket?
The sign in question has two brackets around the pole – one about shoulder height, the other more stomach height – that are in addition to the sign itself. One is made of a metal that makes it great for attaching a magnetic micro. But if it’s there for temporary signs to be attached, then it’s probably not good for a cache.
Been thinking about it ever since posting the question, and I’m thinking I need to come up with a Plan B if I want to place a hide at that location. Good thing I didn’t submit it yet!
Like The Rat said, it is usually for temporary or seasonal signage, like Adopt-A-Highway, Heavy Traffic Ahead, or Road Work Ahead signs. A former cache hider used to put a screw in the post hole to attach a nano to the head of said screw.
