Another post (http://www.wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/000875.html) sparked this idea:
—-
While driving through the city of West Allis, WI the other day I saw this little park, probably 15′ x 30′, and thought, “There isn’t a cache there. Wow.” For many in West Allis, everywhere they go there’s a cache. I’m waiting for people to start sticking them to the underside of their paper boxes or mail holders and post it on Geocaching.com. If they have a big enough lot they could stick one on their flagpole too.So back to the 15 x 30′ park. Do I put one there and call it “Micro Micro?” The numbers folks might be happy, but the view would be…a bus stop? The challenge is not being seen looking for it? (That’s so the cache isn’t muggled.) Of course, it could take making a microcache to a whole new level of small, in which case I could call it “Micro Micro-micro” for “Micro-park’s Micro-microcache.” THAT might be kind of fun.
—-What do you think? If enough people want one, I’ll make a container and post it to Geocaching.com. Otherwise this is not a location I would personally place a cache, since I’m more of an outdoors type.

05/27/2005 at 1:29 pm #1749708they already have nano-cache containers. People have come up with all kinds of clever super micro hide containers. If i remember right there was a post in the geocaching.com forums about unique containers and a few if the nanocaches were pictured.
I used to not like urban micros…until caching yesterday with dad…..we found about 6 caches and when we were done i found 7 wood ticks. With another “find” this morning. I think i’ll wait until a couple frosts before going out in the woods again.
05/27/2005 at 1:55 pm #1749709I’ve shot my mouth off about liking micros before, so I say go for it. I guess just try to make it unique somehow. In my short career I’ve done quite a few park and logs already and some were memorable and some weren’t.
I understand the constraints of the urban dweller in finding a new spot to place a cache, so I understand it might not have a view, but the hide could be really mind-blowing too…
I’ve torn my hair out looking for some magnetic micros. Oh, wait. I shave my head. But some of those have really been a riot. I guess when I get around to placing my first cache, I just want it to be memorable. Follow your muse.
Thanks for the use of the pulpit Brother Opossum!05/27/2005 at 2:32 pm #1749710As far as geocache placement…
“Whatever floats your boat.”
(so long as it conforms to the guidelines at geocaching.com)Different geocachers like to find different types of caches. Let each individual geocacher decide if they want to seek a particular style cache.
05/27/2005 at 2:42 pm #1749711Since it’s a small park and I assume does not have room for a big cache .. and the area is devoid of caches … go for it. I would only be “sad” if you placed the micro 40′ away from a nice big hollow tree with room for a beach ball.
Disclaimer: this is not be considered a recommendation to hide a beach ball, as they tend to pop when you try to stick pencils in them.

That being said, I have enjoyed tracking down a micro on a college campus and ended up around a bus shelter. But the first type of caching that I enjoy is someplace in the country where I can hike a bit and my dog wander around free.
My preference for urban caches are to be within walking distance of a hotel or motel. When I’m flying into a city for work and don’t have a car, I’d rather spend my free time finding near by caches than boozing up in a lounge.

Waukesha05/29/2005 at 2:19 pm #1749713Now their is a novel idea. Going geocaching instead of drinking. Is that even allowed in this state? I will have to remember that when I start traveling. I think that I will find alot more interesting places than a bar now.

You might enjoy a series of 3 puzzle caches that we’re working on getting approval for. Look for them in another month or so–we’d like to do a bang-up job on them so the fun factor is way up there. (Although if most people consider it “a challenge” we’ll be happy.)

06/01/2005 at 12:29 pm #1749715Thanks for your feedback. After reading your posts, other posts on this site, and The Lil Otter’s thoughts on the Groundspeak forum, I won’t be placing an urban micro. The challenge for me would have been in making the container, which would be cool since I work at W-Steel. However, hiding it in a micro-park just isn’t me.
On the flip-side, I just got permission to place the puzzle cache I’ve been working on for a while.

06/01/2005 at 8:14 pm #1749717I have a micro in a small part. The park isn’t particularly interesting, but I think the micro is. Haven’t had too many complaints about it, which makes me think it’s a fun one!
