Okay, I’ve never attended a GeoBash. But my cousin and I are thinking about it this year (okay, next). How does this work? Okay, besides the obvious such as showing up. Is there a cost? if so, how much? Does everyone camp? Is that free? Or is there a cost for the camping? Can you reserve camping spots?
So many questions…
09/21/2007 at 6:15 pm #1879200Just like any other event, post your Will Attend and go!
There are associated costs — camping, swag if you want it (T-shirts, coins), and meals if you are hungry. These are typically paid before the event, although they still had room for camping, stuff left over and lots of food when I was at MWGB 2007. There is no cost to attend.
Some people, such as myself this year, choose to stay at local hotels. However, having seen the camping layout and the fun that was to be had there, I plan on camping if I go to MWGB 2008 (I’m really thinking about it).
There was no reserving of campsites for 2007, but there is lots of room, so it’s nothing to worry about.
Perhaps we’ll see each other there!

09/22/2007 at 2:17 am #1879202WE missed this year’s (2007) because Professor couldn’t get off of work. My family attended the two previous years and we camped. It was alot of fun and a great way to met other cachers from the MidWest. I believe our WGA BOD is interested in bring the the midwest geobash to Wisconsin one year so it would be great to show our support and have as many Wisconsinites attend as possible. We are torn between attending a “possible” wedding and geobash 2008. Tami
Here’s the gc number for the geocaching event page. GC154HT

09/22/2007 at 5:32 pm #1879204It is a great time and my 9 year old son had a total blast, but unfortunately this years date falls when someone (possibly me) may or may not be attending a 20 year HS reunion (allegedly).
09/24/2007 at 1:39 am #1879205Well, I know for my mom and I, MWGB 07′ was awesome. I took off of work on Thursday and Friday. We Left Green Bay, at about 4:00am. I think we got to GeoBash at about Noon… If I remember right.. had an absolute Blast. Wish we could Wipe Chicago off the map though, as it would make Driving Much easier!!!

You actually can! Take the ferry from Manitowoc to Ludington (or from Milwaukee to Muskegon). It costs about $100 per person and $60 addtional for your car from Manitowoc and $130 for your car from Milwaukee. The Milwaukee trip takes 1.5 hours, while the Manitowoc trip takes 4 hours (they have a $5 discount if you help row!) I’ve often thought it would be a good business to run a ferry from Kenosha or Waukegan to Gary, IN, which is really the only reason anyone takes the ferry in the first place.
01/09/2008 at 3:27 pm #1879207This years Midwest Geobash will be August 7-10th in Kendallville, Indiana. A group of us went last year and as far as I know everyone had a blast. This years theme is parrots. I thought it would be cool to do a group coin project for those of us in WI going to MWGB. If you are interested check out the Geocoin topic and post your thoughts.
Maybe it would be cool to try and get a “group” campsite. We would need to know who is camping, in what and what section you want to camp in soon so a group leader can make reservations as soon as the campsite reservations open.
Here is the Link for the event: Midwest Geobash 2008 and the link for the event cache: GC154HT – A Mega-Event Cache Midwest Geobash 2008.

I went into more details under the geocoin topic, check it out.
01/13/2008 at 3:51 am #1879211Here is one idea for a WI MWGB group coin. http://www.madhattersneverland.com/pez/wrappers/ProtoPage/coin_ROBIN_PARROT/1.htm There would be a space for each person to add their name – or what ever they wanted to in that space. You could choose your own colors, including glitter or glow in the dark.
I am also going to present an idea based upon Ldove’s Mooving cow, if I get her permission to do so (Permission given, Thanks!).
Let me know if you are interested and what you think.
