My son is going to an all day concert on the 29th at Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee. I’m dropping him and his friends off, then go caching.

What I want to do is spend a day focusing on trails in the area and just walk from cache to cache. I do not want to drive around the city geocaching. I just prefer to park the car at the trailhead and just walk along the trail to get them.

    Suggestions appreciated.

I rode my bike down the bugline trail before and the day after a concert in Milwaukee, lots of caches, .1 miles apart. And its a nice trail to

The glacial Drummond trail in Waukausha has 26 on it

Here are the parking coordinates for the
    east end N42 59.519 W088 17.368
    west end N42 59.810 W088 19.470

There are 23 States caches and 2 others that you will pass along the way.
There will be a cache almost every .15 miles.

Here are some parking coordinates for the Bugline.
    eastern start 43 11.033 088 07.030
    Maple Ave 43 10.253 088 08.547
    Lannon 43 09.108 088 09.815
    Sussex 43 08.060 088 12.583
    Sussex 43 08.006 088 13.828
    Lisbon 43 09.410 088 17.326

Thanks to Mr Greenthumb for all the above info, he sent it to me when we went there last month for a numbers run.

At first I thought wow, Barry sure knows Waukesha County. Then I scrolled down. There are 27 new ones on the Glacial Drumlin Trail now.

Thanks. I don’t like driving from cache to cache. It’s not about the numbers for me anymore unless I want to hit a milestone on a certain date. I just want to park once or twice and enjoy a nice walk in the woods and get a few caches while I’m at it.

I’d recommend Ryan Park in Waukesha County. It’s not your typical park – it’s undeveloped (no playgrounds or soccer fields) with varied terrain and a mix of meadow and forest, plus has some great views. It will be a bit of a drive, but you should be able to get there in less than 30 minutes. There are about 10 caches in this huge park. Here’s one:

Definitely plug in the parking coordinates to your GPSr – you’ll likely drive right by otherwise.

I’d go along with abdcm on their recommendation, rather than the Glacial Drumlin. I just did a handful on the GD trail last Saturday, and this time of year, walking that trail is like hiking down a highway. You will get passed by around 1 cyclist per minute. The Ryan property is a neat place with lots of rather rugged trails.

Another option you might consider is the Lapham Peak Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. Lapham is a very beautiful area with lots of trails and many caches. There are 15 caches, including 3 earthcaches and several mysteries and multis. The parkland is right off of I-94 exit 285, approximately 27 miles from the Marcus Amphitheater. If you don’t have a state park pass, you can park for free at the parking coordinates for GC11PT3 . Just don’t tell the DNR who told you about the parking! I will tell you that the hiking in Lapham Peak is no joke, and getting all the caches without using a car would be a serious day, but you don’t HAVE to do them all in one day.

I’ll agree with Dave on this one, especially since most of the caches there are mine. It’s a great combinaion of hiking through woods and prairies. The prairies are abloom with flowers right now. You get a great view of Pewaukee Lake from the highest point. If you go make sure you do the 2 multi’s there. They are both easy and have fun finals. The feedback that I get from logs on my caches there has been very positive.

I didn’t go to Milwaukee. Personal issues came up. Maybe next year. Thanks for the suggestions anyways.
