Mwawkee? 😳
06/19/2010 at 2:28 pm #1931287My grandma was from upstate New York, and she always said (for words like fog and dog) “fahg” and “dahg” while we (from northern Illinois) would say “fawg” and dawg”. It was funny hearing her overly emphasize our way of saying those words. She would probably “lahg” her cache finds, while we “lawg” them.
But I don’t know how she said bagel because I don’t ever remember having bagels with her.

TELet’s try:
“creek” to rhyme with “speak”
Q-pon
“root” to rhyme with “foot”, unless it’s “root, root, root for the home team” (rhymes with “boot”)
gro-shree06/20/2010 at 4:22 am #1931292bubbler : bubble-er or bub-lur?
Wash : with or without the “r” sound?
Ask : as-k or ax-k?
This could easily cross to the pet peeves thread 😀
(disclaimer: No offence intended by any of this as I am sure that I mispronounce lots of things.)

06/20/2010 at 12:23 pm #1931293What about calm? Do you pronounce the “l” or not? I don’t, my wife does. She drives me nuts every time she says it that way.

TECreek is like squeak, except in city names where it sounds like stick (sometimes)
Coupon is troop (you know, like chicken coup)@astrod-team wrote:

Depends on if I’m lazy or actually want to pronounce it 🙂
