I just dug a really neat geocoin out of the bottom of a cache that hasn’t been logged in a year. The last log was June 2009, and the coins location was “In the hands of”. I expected it to be a stray coin because it wasn’t listed in the cache contents.
The whole ride home I was like, “Im gonna be a hero, I’m gonna be hero.”
Some geocoin owner would have been thrilled that their coin finally turned up after being missing for so long.I looked at the coin owner’s profile and saw they haven’t logged on to geocaching.com in almost as long. I’m not a hero, at least not today. But I’m still thrilled to be able to move this coin along.
06/01/2010 at 2:45 am #1895377I had a geocoin of mine “discovered” in a cache in England. The person discovering it said they got this coin from their friend and will have to place it soon. They ended their post by saying, “We’re even going to start geocahcing as a family – gotta get a gps!” The coin remained logged in the cache in England. I was patient for a few weeks then I contacted them through goecaching.com. They had an account and the only thing on it to this day was my discovered coin. No hides and no finds. No reply from my initial contact and then about a month after the discovery, they posted this message, “Still on vacation…pics to come.” I got photos of the coin in Canada and at Niagara Falls. No further contact or postings after that. Then, 7 months later, I got a message from another cacher in Layfayette, LA. He found my coin in a cache there over 4000 miles from where it last was. It is now back in circulation.
I have got others that have gone missing but I guess I will always hold out a little hope of them coming back.
06/01/2010 at 10:32 pm #1895378A coin that we placed in a cache on 6/5/07 and it immediatly disappeared showed up over the weekend in a cache in Jackson Hole, WY. It gives me hope that the other thirty some coins we placed around that time and had go missing right away will start showing up.
06/02/2010 at 12:19 am #1895379And as I go thru all of my emails I had another coin that was missing for a year and a half show up this weekend too.
Maybe we need to have more memorial day weekends. 🙂
06/14/2010 at 7:09 pm #1895380I just picked up TB1R0XZ in a cache in Green Bay. It has been out of the game for nearly 2 years. It is back now.
