On March 24th I participated in a Geocaching adventure in Missouri. I was 1 of 2 cachers from WI. This was a great event that placed 60 new permanent caches as part of individual, 2 person team and 4 person team competition events. Our neighbors from Minnesota had 18 cachers there. This is the first year they did not win the 4 person team competition. This event is in its 4th year and was very well run and was put on by the Corps of Engineers and SLAGA the St Louis Area Geocaching Association. This is a model for any geocaching event. See

I did not compete. My son, TollyBrew, did for the second year and took second place for the second time. He talked it up so much is why I went down this year. In the morning they have the individual competition. Waypoints, topomaps and punch cards are given to the competitors and they are released at 8:00 AM. The non-competitors are then given the waypoints, topos and punch cards and released at 9:00 AM. This is for the first 30 freshly released waypoints. In the afternoon they do the same thing for the team competition. 1:00 PM for competitors and 2:00 PM for everyone else all going for 30 additional new permanent caches.
About the only downside to this is that with so many folks going for a limited number of caches you can almost follow the bodies and not use your GPS.

There were several groups that went the first year (3 years ago??), and many that went the last two years as well. We attended the first year, and even in its infancy, we noted how wonderful of an event it is. Very well run and very friendly groups down there welcoming us. Definitely an event to keep in mind year after year.
