Up by near Hurley, there is a series called the Montreal Mine series. It will require a bit of bush wacking but the places you see will be amazing. The views of the area from two of the caches are absolutely stunning as well. The caches are placed at different parts of an abandoned mine that used to be functioning several years ago. They are an amazing series! Does anyone know other caches like that?
We head up to Whitecap to ski every winter and I always think I should track these down in the snow. This year might have to be the year!
That sounds really cool! I love old mining stories, probably since I grew up learning Colorado’s mining history. We did a few really cool mine caches in Leadville, CO this summer.
Can I get a GC?

There will be another one up there just down the road very soon. ;). Submitted last night. Trekkin’ and I did the stockpile one many years ago. Growing up there, he got up there with ease. Two guys at the town shop were watching him, and when he got down, they said “Your mudder’s gonna be mad wit’ all that iron ore on your pants! “. Turned out one of the guys graduated with his sister.
I got 2/3 up before the tailings started to swallow me up. You can’t stop to catch your breath!
There are many, many old mine site caches in the Keweenaw peninsula of the U.P.
The Montreal Mine series is: GCZ42X, GCN890, GCZ42K, and GCR27Q.
