I’ve set free just one travel bug in my geocaching career, the Lil Otter, celebrating her 3000th find – back in 2004.
From 5/2004 to 8/2005, it traveled 39,634 miles and saw places like Australia, Germany, Austria and Hungary.
Turned up missing in Montana 🙁
Definitely need to zoom out on the map…

Out of about a dozen bugs, we have one that made its way overseas to Germany, and it is moved and discovered much more frequently than any others we have.
Do we have bug saturation in the US?

I would agree with this based on my family’s experience with travel bugs as well. They move more overseas and the other thing is, because countries are so close together (physically) the bugs tend to visit many countries and the logs tend to be in many different languages. For our kids, they actually enjoy this more than bugs moving around here in the US.

My first travel bug has been going strong for 3.5years and as of right now has 23688.9miles on it. most of the mileage is recent with trips to Iraq and back.

09/25/2008 at 5:01 pm #1895399I started my very first TB “Loner the Red Light” back in November 2003.

On June 19th 2005 Loner made his successful return to the same cache cache he had began his journey from after completing his goal and traveling 16,440.1miles
I got alot of help from some very nice cachers in several states to get him back up to MN, and dropped within my area so it could be dropped back where it started. Very cool!
States=WI, MN, Michigan, Indiana, Washington, Missouri
Countries/etc- Aruba, Netherlands, Akershus, Oslow, Norway Denmark
My other 3 have all been dead since 2006 or so- had very bad luck with the rest, but Chester was a rockstar!
I recently re-released one of them, but it has yet to get started again.
