Forums Geocaching in Wisconsin General Muggle gripes–at least I hope it’s muggles

I’m sure everyone who has placed caches has gripes about muggles, but I’m going to gripe anyway. We’ve had three caches go bad in less than a week out of 60. Maybe that’s not a bad percentage out there, but it’s frustrating particularly since we’re not talking about big ammo boxes here–one was a camoed bison tube, hanging in a tree, in the middle of a woods (no comments, please…)

Anyway, weeks like these make you want to just disable everything that doesn’t take a 5-mile hike to get to.

Anyone have any perspective to share to snap me out of my self pity??? 😡

Is this emoticon off limits too? 🙄
lol. Kidding. It happens. Hopefully you are just a victim of bad luck and it’s not a plot to extinguish local geocaches. That takes too much work and people are lazy. Just keep a closer watch on your caches for a bit.

It was WP1 in GC1AMYF, and the decoded clues give you directions right to it. It’s supposed to be Homer’s little “dog tag.” Otherwise, yes, it would be a Lame Hide.

Interestingly, 2 of the recent missing/damaged caches were reported by the same cacher, but I don’t have any reason to suspect him/her.

I think it is mostly just bad luck.

I took the dogs for a walk this afternoon, between unpacking/debriefing from my trip to Green Bay this week and getting ready for my trip to Colorado next week, and checked on one of my nearby caches that has not been out long. I KNOW that I left it well covered. I found it sitting pretty much open to the naked eye, and the next muggle by could have seen it and made off with it. The last finder is a newbie whose name I dont recognize, so I just have to chalk it up to inexperience and bad luck. That is likely what happens most of the time: a newbie leaves them unconcealed, and someone swipes it.

Stuff just happens … next week will be better.

I had one cache going missing before it was even released!
About a year ago I released a cache and then I decided later to use a different container, the first was gone … good thing I decided I wanted a different one 😆 It was a very private spot and no people around (including no cars in the parking lot) when I hid it … so I almost think an animal dragged off with it.

Keep in mind that right now, animals are finishing their migrations, and many are coming out of hibernation as well. These same animals have it in their blood to check out, and remove anything they find to be suspicious from their territories.

Even if something is cammo’d to you, it’s most likely not to the rest of the forest critters. I swear they can smell cammo tape for a mile. 😯 😀
