Just an early notice to our membership that we are working on having another mustard pull at Hartman Creek State Park this year. We did this at the campout 4 years ago, and the board decided to repeat it this year.
For those who are unaware, mustard is an invasive species that damages our park lands and animal habitat. One way that we can give back as good stewards of the land is to help control the weed, and physical pulling of the weed is often the best approach. Here is more info on pulling garlic:

This is just one of many things that will be going on this year at the campout, so stay tuned for further announcements.

Pulling garlic mustard didn’t take too long and it made a really positive impact at the park. We had two groups that came out, and after about 90 minutes this is the pile of garlic mustard we plucked from the ground:

Do we get the cool jumpsuits too?!?!?! 😯
No, no cool jumpsuits. The park naturalist pictured here used this as a tactic to help keep the ticks at bay.
I myself used Permetherin treated clothes and I didn’t have any problems at all.
Better living through chemistry!
We enjoyed our stint at pulling garlic mustard at the last campout events. Just a thought…the volunteer pullers could be part of the GPS…Garlic Pullers Society.. It is not hard and gives a lot of satisfaction…and helps one to realize just how widespread the problem is.
