IOn a side note, why list them as a multi if they have separate log books and you expect someone to log it multiple times online? I would list them separately… The only reason I can come up with is you want to bend the .10 rule.

I have a cache that has a bonus find that I allow to be logged. In this case, the bonus location is really where I wanted the cache to be for the purpose of bringing people to an area of park that is seldom visited. However, if I had posted the coords to that location, some people would have parked along the road nearby and bushwhacked through the woods to the cache – missing the entire point. So, I put the “official” cache at another cool spot and left the hike to the bonus location up to the cacher. Most finders don’t bother with the additional cache. Maybe they don’t notice the coords in the logbook.

For those interested, the cache discussed here is GCJRVW.

And looking back, I see that I logged the bonus. That cache is on my list of top ten in Chippewa County, so if you are headed this way, be sure to check it out.

Sure, zuma, put it out there for all to see when I have the old crawler for the Campout on the cache page. 😉

Fixed. But don’t check my other caches; I forgot about updating that and I’m supposed to be working right now.

      (Thanks for the endorsement.)

“Don’t usually do multi caches” missing from the poll options…

I did my first multi in a long time while I was at Geobash, and that reminded me why I usually skip them. It was a four or five stager that just had you walking back and forth across a city park. The final was nice, but there didn’t seem to be any point to the initial stages other than to make you walk around a lot before you got to the end.

I know not all multis are like that, and I have done several that take you on nice hikes, but for the most part, I’d rather do a nice single stage cache than a multi.

That said, I’ve also got The Journal on my list of want-to-do caches; a day or two of hunting a multi for just a single smiley!

It seems older caches in particular allow this and may have been set up differently if they were done today.

For instance, Door County Challenge GCGE6B is a multi cache with four distinct caches that can be logged. And you’re darn right we were going to do four logs on that one! I’m guessing if this were set up now it might be DCC #1, #2, etc., which would actually be more representatitive of the cache and its difficulty since all stages are not 1/1.

So it’s difficult to answer the poll question, because the answer is not always/only, but really is “it depends.”

When we placed our NEW Solar System series some years ago, we placed logbooks in all the stages and left it up to the individual cachers to log multiple finds on the cache.

We did this because, there were few quality caches in the area, we wanted to tie in the caches and their waypoints to a final bonus, it allowed us utilize many areas of a nice park in one cache (no park and grabs here), and damn, the caches we designed – you had to work arse off to find and we wanted that to be rewarded.

As we did maintenence and replaced missing waypoints, we eliminated the log books in the WPs and just kept the main one in the final.

I think part of it too, it was something different at the time. Some cachers chose to log all the stages, some, only chose to log the cache once. At the time, we just wanted to offer an option of extra smileys for some hard work at finding them.

This is another great example of a great multi, one of my all time favorites. And yes, I logged this one 4 times as well, as it really is more like 4 seperate caches, each with their own log book. The only problem with that one is that it is rated a 1/1 which is almost true of the first stage, but not at all true of each of the subsequent stages that get progessively more challenging.

I wish more had log books at each WP. They are all “finds” at least to me, and that way if part of the multi goes missing (which seems to happen to me all the time), I can at least log part of my day for the ones I did find. 😀
