12/22/2008 at 5:17 pm #1899113Something to chew on …….
Last year I ran across one of the organizers – at Sweet Life’s spot – and asked why the registration was not open later.
The reply I got was that there are not enough volunteers to man the registration process. Another source indicated there were volunteers, but they did not show up.
So, I am thinking it would be nice for some WI cachers to volunteer (and show up!) for that purpose. Probably for Thursday, July 23rd (opening day). Something like 5-10 PM?
Bec is contacting the organizers to ask some questions.

Interesting taste, now to see how it digests

Great idea Marc. Our family noticed how worn out the volunteers looked by the end of the weekend last summer and decided that we would volunteer to help out. We’ve already contacted them to see how we can help out, but haven’t heard back yet.
I really like the idea of helping as a group. I’m sure they will welcome the offer.
12/22/2008 at 8:51 pm #1899116being a volunteer last year, I can attest to the needing of more help in certain areas, Most (90%) or better of the volunteers are from Michigan then the rest from Ohio, and it was just us from Wisconsin. Would love to see more Wisconsin geocachers there even if it is just a 4 hour shift one of the days, it is a big help.

12/22/2008 at 9:17 pm #1899117Well if we can rally enough support, maybe Wisconsin could consider hosting in 2010 and take some pressure off Those MI, OH lads and lasses.

Hmmm….. not working? No family? Really want to volunteer?
It sounds like a great idea, but the amount of work involved in incredible.
Besides which, there is a MWGB organization that controls it, and I believe they are from the MI/OH/IN area.
12/23/2008 at 12:20 am #1899119There was talk of bringing MWGB to Wisconsin or the UP or even Minnesota in the future, MWGB.org would do alot of the work to set up a event in another state, but there would be legwork that would need to be done, the area would have to have a large area for the event, like the UP state fair grounds in Escanaba or maybe even the Brown county fair grounds in Depere. there would have to be ample hotels close by for the non campers.
A large airport for the flyins and the venue has to be reasonably priced to fit in the budget, and have ample caches in the area that can support 500 visitors in a week.Barry of sweetlife
12/23/2008 at 2:38 am #1899120The folks at MWGB have been approached about bringing the event to Wisconsin. They didn’t say no, so maybe someday….I even know a place that would love to be the venue.

03/26/2009 at 1:39 am #1899121For those who expressed interest in volunteering this year
There is no formal registration this year, but volunteers are welcome!
I told them that we had a bunch of Wisconsin folks ready and willing to volunteer.
