If we find a cache on the list that we’ve never found before AFTER an owner replacement note, we can’t claim points
Or can we?
There is a difference between a “find” and “confirmation”. Finds are finds no matter what. Confirmations (you already found it previously, but you are checking on its status for the LCG) have to abide by some special rules.
As per the rules on the LCG page:
5. How to score points! There are five primary ways to score points for a lonely cache.
a.You find a cache which has not been found (by you) prior to the start of the game.
Score: Difficulty + Terrain + 5 points
… and…
12. Rule Clarifications
c. A cache can only be confirmed present or confirmed missing once during the two month list period, unless there is a subsequent DNF. If the cache is visited by two cachers at the same time, they will both get the credit.
d. A cache cannot be confirmed (either way) after a find, a confirmation note, an enable note, or an owner maintenance visit log is posted during the 2 month period, unless there is a subsequent DNF. If the last log on a cache is an confirmation note, it cannot be confirmed again, regardless of how long ago it was found.
you can claim the points if you have never found it before even after a owner maintenance note.
the owner maintenance only negates any further verifications (revisits) by previous finders.
