HAHA “frisbee golf course hole thing” thats exactly what I would’ve said. nice little tour of the cache :>
08/08/2009 at 2:57 pm #1912178Liked your enthusiasm and the side “color”–talking to the deer, avoiding the roadside hole, don’t sled down that hill. Glad you made the find. I was wondering there towards the end. Good job!
08/08/2009 at 9:16 pm #1912179I enjoyed watching it! I think you walked through poison ivy around 2:13 though – 😯 I would also comment that you may find it easier to find the caches if you use your compass on your GPS. When you were scrolling through looking for accuracy, I thought I saw one on your GPS. If the compass screen is up, the arrow should just point to which way you need to walk and count down footage as well. It was hard to tell, but the screen you looked like you were using was possibly for tracking? ❓ Anyway, thanks for sharing!

I do have a compass but I think it’s inaccurate
08/10/2009 at 3:46 am #1912181I think LDove means the compass screen. I’m not too familiar with your GPS, but I bet you’ll find it easier to use that screen. I’m sure someone can give you more pointers on that.
08/10/2009 at 6:21 pm #1912182Joey, I see you will be at the Cache Ba$h! I would love to meet you and show you what I mean. I will be around as one of the event hosts. I will probably be wearing a pair of brown shorts and a fall multi-colored top! They will also be having a geocaching seminar where you could find many other cachers to help you if you can’t find me! Happy to help! 😀

I understand that he means the compass on my GPS, what I’m saying is that whenever I try to use it I’m either using it wrong or its inaccurate.
08/11/2009 at 11:45 am #1912184If the compass on your GPS unit is electronic, you have to calibrate it every time you change the batteries. I also found that there is a bit of a learning curve with an electronic compass when I switched from one GPS to another. It’s really about getting experience finding caches with a particular unit and compass.
There are lots of tips and tricks you can learn from other geocachers by spending some time with them and playing around with all the gadgets and programs out there.
As the others mention, a great opportunity to do so is at an event.

Oh I will be getting tips for sure, can’t wait! Any idea how I calibrate my compass?
08/11/2009 at 7:04 pm #1912186This is how mine works so I am not sure if yours is the same but here is what I do.
When you are on your compass screen, press the menu button and it should list “calibrate compass.” Then, you will have to spin in a circle to recalibrate. Okay everyone out there laughing, 😆 Jeremy already told me I could spin the GPS IN MY HAND and not my whole body, but I still do it that way even if I look like a goof!!! 😳 That should recalibrate it for you, you just might look a little silly like me – 😯
08/11/2009 at 9:51 pm #1912187Or throw it away and get a Garmin 😛 !…. OH wait! I think they have to be calbertated also but you can turn the compass off…… 😉
08/11/2009 at 10:16 pm #1912188What’s a compass? 😛
I’ve yet to use one thus far. Yes, I have lost my bearings a bit, but I get around that by marking starting waypoints.

I still spin in circles no matter what someone else thinks. It’s much more fun. 😀
