A week ago I noticed a new local earthcache and decided to head out before work and do it. We got the info to answer the questions took a few photo’s with my camera phone and continued on my way to work. I logged my find via my phone and said I would post my photo’s later.
Within an hour I had an email from the owner that said if I didn’t post a phot my log would be deleted. I emailed him back and let him know it was my plan to upload my photo’s later.
when I got home I uploaded the photo’s and thought that would be the end of this cache….. well three days later I got an email from the owner that was rude & claiming I was trying to get away with something(though he never explained what). I ignore it hoping it would go away…. bad choice
Today I got notice that my log was deleted, so I took the time to resubmit it and added that if there was a problem with my log please let me know what it is……
03/28/2007 at 1:27 am #1872240I got the rudest email back from the owner claiming he deleted my log because my photo wasn’t good enough, and that I had cropped my photo so I wasn’t in picture per the cache logging rules…..
I guess I always had the understanding that the photo was just proof you where there, and hello isn’t this just a game?
Thanks for letting me vent
03/28/2007 at 1:42 am #1872241I had a similar experience caching in Brooklyn Park Minnesota. Minnesota’s infamous ‘KB’ planted a virt at the Earle Brown Memorial Center. It was supose to an air field. Well, I went to GZ according to my GPS, no airfield, so I went to the hotel, came back to the area the next day, no airfield. I took a picture of the GPS screen showing that there was nothing at GZ. He deleted my log and had the nerve to tell me ‘…. how often are coordinates exact anyways?’ Therefore, I cache in Wisconsin.
03/28/2007 at 2:22 am #1872242Well for some reason the cache owner is still having issues with my log…. I guess I should have centered my picture. Now he says my log is going to be deleted again unless I can come up with some good explanation of my actions….

This is really frustrating to me, I really don’t see any problem with my log & don’t want to loose the find…. anyone have an earth cache I can log so I don’t loose my smiley? 😕
03/28/2007 at 2:41 am #1872243From what I can tell, maybe you didn’t get your entire face in the pic? And you answered all the questions, including the estimate, right? (I think you said you answered all the questions.)
Maybe because you are the FTF the person is being a stickler about the face in the picture thing so everyone else follows it. That’s all I can think of.
Good luck!

EclecticPeople03/28/2007 at 2:57 am #1872244yes thats exactly what the issue is, I don’t have a whole face in the picture, but as i said before isn’t the photo really just to prove your visit so you didn’t somehow get the info off the internet?
1. I answered all the questions
2. I uploaded photosI have asked what I can do to make this right, all I ever get is rude responses.
I’m about ready to get in my car go buy a ski mask and drive to nowhere Illinois to get a new photo just to put this behind me.
03/28/2007 at 3:06 am #1872245I don’t know all the particulars about this cache, but as someone who owns virtual caches and used to own some of the now-banned locationless caches, I understand what it’s like to have geocachers ignore requirements for claiming a find. Sure, it’s just a game, but if you’re not willing to play by the rules, why play it?
03/28/2007 at 3:29 am #1872246Done deal, I’m just gonna let him delete my log, I’m sick of all the threats and nasty emails.
I just feel the cache owner is being kinda anal about it, and quite frankly this really turns me off to caching in general(right now anyway). I drove 30+ miles out of my way to do this cache, took my photos near cache as I always have(I never post FACE pictures online).
There really isn’t anything I can do to make this right with him short of driving back there and taking another photo, which is ridiculous.
03/28/2007 at 5:37 am #1872247Maybe it is because you are wearing a Michigan sweatshirt. 😆
03/28/2007 at 1:10 pm #1872248😀 Looks like it’s all good now! Congrats

I would delete any log made by someone in a Michigan sweatshirt as well. The nerve of some people. 😉

Thanks for the laughs! My girlfriend can’t help it she is from michigan….
yes the cache owner finally let me just log the cache as I had, though it took some work on my part. maybe it was me mentioning the 60mile round trip to the cache just for a new photo.

Yeah, I noticed that too.
LOL I also noticed that, though I figured I couldn’t hold anything against them because the cache owner lives a state away in Indiana so isn’t from the area. I’m sure winslow has some nice people living there.
I kinda feel like a jerk for starting this thread, but If I wouldn’t have vented a bit I may have been a bit rude to the cache owner in my return emails. -
