Maybe some of you are already aware of this site, but I just found out about it — it’s a good source for custom-printed topographic maps. mytopo.com
You can choose the location, choose the scale, choose tall or wide map orientation, and even choose any combination of latitude/longitude and UTM grids or tics. Preview your map on line, then they print it on non-tearable waterproof paper and mail it to you within 24 hours, all for only $14.95. They’ll even ship it to you folded or rolled — your choice. I saw some samples over the weekend at the Canoecopia show in Madison and they look great. I plan to order some for canoe expeditions this summer.[This message has been edited by kbraband (edited March 11, 2002).]

A similar feature is also offered at Milwaukee Map Service,(Mayfair Rd, Milwaukee). They have a kiosk on the North Wall. I have not had any maps printed up by them yet, but the owner demonstrated it to me last fall. If I recall, price was comparable. Tyvek or similar paper, color, etc.03/14/2002 at 12:44 pm #1734948What is the North Wall?
03/14/2002 at 8:21 pm #1734949ugh… against the north wall? It was after 2am on my earlier post, me was sleepy and should have been in bed.
03/15/2002 at 12:28 am #1734950Sorry, guess my question seemed rather odd.
I had heard of an outfitters called the ‘North Wall’, and I was hoping that your ‘North Wall’ was perhaps one of these.
A new camping/hiking type place in Milwaukee would have been excellent.

Speaking of that, I feel as if I just “discovered” such a new place, even though it’s an old one. I went to Sherpe’s for the first time and was very impressed. The store doesn’t look like much on the outside, but they have a good selection of camping/expedition supplies at pretty good prices compared to Laacke & Joys, REI, Gander Mountain, Cabela’s, etc. I know many of you have been there before, but it was fun for me to discover. Thanks, Sam!
03/15/2002 at 6:30 am #1734952Hey! That’s great, Ken
Now I’m really glad that I made that cache! I hope you bought an ammo box, or two03/15/2002 at 2:34 pm #1734953quote:

That was my original purpose for going there, but they didn’t have any ammo boxes left. They said they’d be getting more soon. I ended up buying other stuff so it was still fun. I’m taking Robin back there today so we can look at more camping stuff. See what you started?
