Per recent discussion on geocaching.com, caches placed on National Forest lands managed by the Dept. of Agriculture Forest Service are ok. There are, in fact, many caches in the Nicolet Forest in northern WI which are listed on geocaching.com. But we see on this webpage that national forest caches are not allowed.
We are confused! We’ve found some caches up north in beautiful areas, and would like to place some in other neat Nicolet National Forest spots we are familiar with.

In general, National forests are geocaching friendly, National Parks are not.
In all cases seek permission from the appropriate authority before you place the cache and this question will be answered for the specific location you are considering.
We discussed this question in the WGA Board of Directors forum and no one can seem to recall why the line about no caches in national forests was included in our list. Therefore, we’re going to remove it. As far as we know, geocaching is not prohibited in National forests. Thanks for asking the question!
As I was on the BOD at the time that the WGA page in question was created, but I was not on the BOD at the time no one could remember why National Forests was originally listed, I can solve the mystery. With the exception of the Wisconsin DNR State Natural Areas exclusion, all the other exceptions came from discussions on the Geocaching.com forum discussions. Things change over time, and it is good to try and keep our page up to date with those changes. It is possible that more should be removed, and perhaps some new items added…
