So not only is the joke a pain in the butt for the people who where supposedly holding it, but it is also for us who would have been interested in attending.

This is why I eventually got, to quote Marc, “stirred up” about this. There are lots of people who are not following the ins and outs of this discussion, and it was not the appropriate venue to make a point.

Also, I–or, perhaps more appropriately, Team gotta run–weren’t real thrilled at being annointed “masters,” as in “learn from the masters.” ??? We enjoy solving puzzles and making them, but so do lots of other people, and there’s nothing special about us. If someone out there feels that way, that’s his/her problem but I won’t stand for any sort of title.

Yes, I have strong opinions on the whole puzzle tour idea. I think puzzle tours diminish the finds of those who have solved puzzles and are a slap in the face to those who have taken the time to put together creative puzzles–and the time to create them is often much more than the time to solve them. I should be allowed to express this opinion, as should others on the opposite side of the spectrum, without being subjected to jokes that appear to carry the official endorsement of the WGA.

That’s just my point, but I suppose I should “lighten up.”

A few weeks prior to all this business about solving puzzles or not and tours I was thinking it would be fun to put on an event to teach others how to place new puzzle caches (rather than solving/finding them).

I think this is an excellent idea. I also think it could be handled via a number of different threads on the Puzzle forum itself, similar to Marc’s big cipher thread. Basically, how to do this, how to do that, and so on.

The merits of geochecker vs. evince; photos in the gallery versus offsite–those are both good ones.

    Cheeto,

I think such a workshop would be a great idea, and if it fit my schedule to travel, would love to attend. I guess I missed some “excitement” yesterday because we were gone…caching! Glad that storm has passed and the skies look brighter now.

I love the idea of putting it on the forums. What would be cool is to do both in-person presentation and also on the forum snippets of each topic. I do think however that many people learn by seeing and hearing rather than reading so that would be why both would be great.

Perhaps this might be workable into the upcoming WGA event??? Have we ever done class type presentations at the camping events before? I figure this might be a good way to gain a bigger audience of the group than just having a local event in my area. However, holding a class would require a projector of some sort. Not sure if we can do that at a campout event or not.

I used to have access to a portable projector but I don’t any longer.

If there is enough interest in this idea, I would like to ask for at least one more volunteer to help me work on it so it’s not just my ideas and my opinions. Anyone want to raise a hand?

Also, I will continue to watch this thread and ask that if anyone has any other things related to creating a puzzle cache that they would like covered, please speak up and share your ideas!

    Cheeto,

How about moving your idea to a new topic? It might be that some interested people have been avoiding this thread and would miss out.

    Just a thought.

Per T&B’s great idea I have moved it to a new thread. Please add feedback there versus here. Now this thread can be returned to whatever it was doing before I interrupted..

It wasn’t doing anything important. Your idea is great!

I tried to ask one of the “creators” about the event and got no reply at all – not even a disclaimer, so I was even more curious. So, it turns out it was cancelled after all? Too bad, I’m sure that group could have taken us to some places we have never gone before…..

Actually, as in King Lear, the jester is often the wisest person in the court. So methinks perhaps you mean a different character. Like the stable hand in charge of piling manure.
