A group of people calling themselves the Fun Club (they organize regular events for their group of 10 to 12 couples) have asked me to help lead their private geocaching event in April. I met with the organizers of this event to figure out what shape it might take.

For this event, I’m looking for the loan of 4 or 5 GPS units from WGA members. It will probably work best if they’re all Garmin eTrex types so we can conduct one training session for all. If you have a GPS unit you could loan to me for one weekend for this event, please let me know. They will take very good care of your GPSr and guarantee to replace any units in case of damage. Thanks!

I know we have a yellow laying around (It is Brendan’s) that if you need us to send it to you we could. Let us know if there aren’t enough in your area and we can be a back up!

I am happy to see you replied to their request. I too received their email and was not quite sure how to take it.

Thanks, GrouseTales and Ms. WISearcher. With Mary’s, that makes 3 eTrexes (eTrexia?). I could use two more. Anyone?

I’d be happy to loan out an Etrex Legend and/or a Magellan 600 if getting it into your hands works into my schedule.

      You didn’t mention when/where you’d need it.

I didn’t? See above: “Milwaukee area” “…event in April”

(OK, I don’t know precisely what weekend yet, but it will be a Saturday evening.)

Ken: I’d be happy to loan you my old Garmin 12 XL. It’s black & white and only has a built in base map but I do have a serial cord for it, so it can download waypoints off GSAK. Let me know if you need it.

I too have an ol’yellar that may be borrowed. It might get put to good use that way.

I’d like to stick with eTrex units for this event, because I’m going to have to give these people a brief group training session before they go out.

So it looks like I have eTrex offers from GrouseTales, Ms. WISearcher, Cat hunter and MRAnderson.

Also, Mary tells me they want to do it either the first or second Saturday in May, so I evidently got the date wrong. Does that still work for the 4 of you to give up your eTrex for a brief time then?

I thought it might be worth pointing out that the second Saturday in May is the WGA Campout.

There’s a campout this year? We have to start carrying a calendar.

I launch off McKinley Beach or South Shore Yacht club mid-morning on most Sundays. It’s pretty much the only time I get into Milwaukee.

This would be a good time to hand off my Etrex Legend if it works for you or someone else that could participate in the hand-off.

You could hold onto it until I see you at the campout.

Let me know if this would work.

        Edited to add thought
