I just got approval from the SNA folks to place Earthcaches at Parfrey’s Glen State Natural Area and Natural Bridge State Natural Area. The write up is done for both and I will be submitting them to Geoaware today. Both of these sites are amazing places to visit!

03/17/2008 at 4:19 pm #1886351Mine for the Valley of the Ice Grotto, an ice cave in the Kickapoo Reserve, is awaiting geoaware’s approval, …since Wednesday; I got the other approvals from the state and the Ho-Chunk Nation already. Hope these all come through soon.
03/17/2008 at 9:59 pm #1886352Our new one, plus Gary’s two, are both up and ready to be discovered now. Yipppee!
03/17/2008 at 11:55 pm #1886353I have a couple in mind that I want/need to get out, but gotta find the time to do it!!! Want to get my “Two Creeks Buried Forest” back up and running!! For those of you who are newer to caching… that was the second Earthcache place in Wisconsin, but archived do to the SNA Regs. Now that we can do gain approval, I NEED to get that one up again!
Hey LB7 and T&B…. can you guys save a couple areas for me to hit?? ROFLABO
Gotta get a couple out to be all official on the Platimun EC MASTER list ya know 😉

I have nothing planned…in fact I think it will be awhile before I place another one. 10 ECs placed is a good place to rest.
03/18/2008 at 1:52 am #1886355We’ve just got one more in mind right now. Well, maybe two. Oh wait, three, but that one’s in Iowa! But they will have to wait just a bit yet. Looking forward to doing the one you’ve got active, Anne, it sounds so wonderful. Maybe when something’s growing, though, huh?
03/18/2008 at 2:05 am #1886356Well, I don’t have approval yet, but after talking to Lb7 about it, I’m going to submit one for the kettle in Lapham Peak.
I’m also going to work on one in Blue Mound SP this spring. With luck I might just have it going before the WGA event in May. No promises though.
Just thought I’d throw that out there so you all knew what I was planning for this spring. 😀
03/30/2008 at 9:01 pm #1886357Ah, I love the Ice Grotto, unfortunately it was so warm last year that when I visited there was nothing to see. I assume this year the grotto was in much better shape. With spring though, most cachers will not see it like they should until next fall. When I get out that way again when the ice fall is present, I will be sure to visit and log this Earthcache, one that I had in mind myself.
I too have some on the stack and am simply not finding the time. I’m hoping with this warm weather that I can make some time now and get a couple Earthcaches on my list.
Thanks Gary for setting the bar so high. Can’t wait to get an excuse to travel and log some of yours. Well done on all your achievements in the area of Earthcacheing!

Thanks. I’m really happy with 9 of my 10 current EC’s….
…as for achievements we have a couple WI cachers with over 100 EC finds! Digital Dan and DaBunnyFufu each have stellar numbers on this cache type.
While catching a few EC’s in Iowa this past week I found another spot that really really needs an Earthcache. I was driving past and a roadside sign and structure caught my attention and I had to stop and check it out….I got home and found that there was three real geocaches already there (two within 600 feet of the place I took coordinates for a possible EC) I’m still waiting for approval on that one but I don’t imagine too many WI cachers will make the trip for it.
If you are looking to do my best Earthcaches go do Rock Elm GC16KZC , Parfreys Glen GC1A9G5 and Natural Bridge GC1A9G8 . I think of the ones I have placed those are the most unique and beautiful.
03/31/2008 at 1:14 am #1886359Thanks for bragging for me LB7 LOL I just love Earthcaches and would rather take the drive to do them than a full day of regular caches. Just wish gas was not so high. I would love to get out, travel to do more and find new places to put some. Gas in one reason we travel in 4’s. We have great company, get to see lots of kewl stuff and share in the expenses.
Hoping to get (GCP3GN) Two Creeks Buried Forest up and running again soon!! Just waiting for the go ahead, since this is in a SNA. For those of you who had not grabbed this one up when it was active, there isn’t much here and getting to the beach is a bit difficult. Being a SNA, we need to be careful, but……..tell that to the kids who party down there and trash the beach. 🙄 Oh well… just need to hurry up and wait again for this one.
04/02/2008 at 3:42 pm #1886360My first Iowa EC (that I placed that is) GC1AV4A
04/02/2008 at 4:20 pm #1886361I’ve been past those lime kilns in years past, taking our son to Bible camp. Can’t wait to head downriver and get all these.
I had to accept my first “no” for an earthcache. It’s a beautiful location of great geological interest, but apparently there have been problems with lots of unauthorized use…beer parties, cliff jumping including a death as a result and general trampling of the area. I completely understand, and the land manager acknowledges that earthcachers would “get it,” but they just need to downplay that site altogether. It’s a shame, but I wasn’t surprised, given the death from reckless behavior at that site last year.
04/08/2008 at 8:36 pm #1886362OK I have learned quite a bit about limestone and kilns so I want to place one….perhaps two Lime Kiln ECs in the state. The first is written and awaiting approval from the parks folks in Grafton at Lime Kiln Park…hopefully I will hear something soon. Basically I mirrored the Lime Kiln cache I have in Iowa but I have since also added much more information. I have already updated the Iowa cache with much of the added information; I felt I was shy a bit of geological information so I dug some more up.

How about I share the Ice Age Trail sites with you first .. see if there are any you want to develop before the others jump in?
