Oh, wait, they’re all frozen. See you in May! 😉 Maybe that should have been the logo… a ammo box encased in a large chunk of ice! 😆
Trench shovel/pick combos are about $20 at Fleet Farm. (They may be more at Farm and Fleet.) Work wonders on frozen in ammo cans. Can’t vouch for how they work on lock-n-locks.
On the Left Side of the Road...01/08/2009 at 8:45 pm #1899821Perhaps in the future, the BOD could appoint a sub-committee of members with expertise on the issue, that could pool their knowledge. Cachers profiles sometimes list their chosen field, or word-of-mouth also works in picking an odd number of members to preview an issue before presenting it for a vote.
This frees up the BOD to handle current issues and not get bogged down in after-the-fact banter.
And the sub-committee members aren’t obligated to a term in office.
Most of the Associations that I belong to ask people to volunteer on these sub-committees, which is overseen by 1 Board member.Just food for thought, since I wasn’t involved in logo voting or design.

There are currently a few subcommittees though I don’t think they are very actively consulted.
01/09/2009 at 1:08 am #1899823here is a idea, maybe we could recoup some of the $100 cost of the new logo design and send it over to Wyoming and see if they want to use it too.

Yes, this is true. Two years ago we tried to move towards having a subcommittee type of system, like many groups use effectively to help with issues like this. Personally, I have seen the use of subcommittees be a very useful idea for this type of issue with other groups, so I agree with your point. However, implementation of subcommittees within the WGA has been a bit disappointing, due to the lack of volunteers.
The process for logo development did not use a subcommittee structure primarily because of our experience over the past 2 years with fairly low numbers of volunteers to serve on our other subcommittees.
For those interested in helping, we do still have subcommittees in place for the upcoming campout and for Public Education, and welcome volunteers. I would hope that in the future that we can revitilize the subcommittee structure as the WGA grows.

So, we will live with it whether we like it or not.
I agree with many of the things Seldom Seen has said except for this one. We don’t have to live with it. There’s nothing in our bylaws that prevents the WGA Board from changing the logo to whatever it wants to at any time. (Heck, they can adopt a swastika if they want to.) Our recourse as members is that the board is an elected body. And I hear there’s an election coming soon. 😀
01/09/2009 at 2:30 pm #1899826Actually the new logo is kind of growing on me.
But online, it would be cool if the brown Wisconsin had more “spunk” … my thought would be not a whole GPSr, but part of the screen of a GPSr, showing some map lines and the “pointer” moving along the breadcrumb trail.
This of course only would work online … too fine of a detail for a shirt or hat … in which case just default back to the current brown.

01/09/2009 at 3:44 pm #1899829Hey, that’s pretty good. It says “geocaching” visually. Well, at least “gps navigation.”

WOW! Me too!!!
I’m not sure it would be as easy or cheap to print on t-shirts and such, but this logo ROCKS!
01/09/2009 at 6:14 pm #1899832Can we get our $100 back?

Hey Cheezehead, I’ve got some color crayons from my nieces I will bring to your event. You can color your logo anyway you want. I just hope crayons aren’t to complicated for you. HA HA!!!!!
