I don’t like it, sorry. It should not have been so close of a design to our neighbors whether they objected or not. It says nothing about geocaching! Personally, I like the avitar design of fellow cacher GMO – very nice colors and different – can we use that? 😀

I would have liked to have seen the whole page changed, new colors, new logo, etc… but I suppose that is even opening up a bigger can of worms! 🙄

Oh and I like the design with the GPS stuff in the WI symbol if we are keeping this – can it be added? Way better than making us look like we work for a famous brown delivery company! “What can brown do for you?” 😯 😛 😆

Tell you what, superimpose GMO’s compass rose over the state of Wisconsin in the logo and I think you’d have a winner.

Cool, I tried to do it, but I am technically challenged 😛 oh well

GMO’s compass is a little off kilter.

His avatar looks nice, though. 😛

Funny, when we started geocaching in the fall of 2007, that’s when the writers’ strike was in the news a lot, and when I’d read the logs on area caches, a lot of them mentioned something about caching on the way to or from the WGA picnic. “Hey, aren’t they on strike?” But since I was looking at geocaching, I figured things out. 😉

If we spent $100 on 20 different variaions, what did they look like? And to take it a step farther, why not have the membership take a vote from those 20? Just curious.

Yeah, that gave it some character… oh wait, were you talking about the logo, or is this one of those stabs at my lack of smartness? “His elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top”, “He’s not playing with a full deck”, “He’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer”, “He’s not the brightest bulb in the box”, “His compass doesn’t point north”. 🙄 Thanks, B 😆

Maybe phase 3 should have been to tweak the winning logo concept, into something unique and more desirable to the members.

Our graphic artist that cleaned up the logo probably wasn’t a Geocacher. Look at how fast we got some tweaks to the logo concept from the members. That’s the type of input I wished we could have had from the artist.

BTW, I was paging through a magazine in the doctor’s office a few months ago and saw the “g” logo. I forgot what the advertisement was for, but I almost ripped the page out to save it. It was almost identical to our “g” logo submission. The colors were even the same. I thought is was interesting.

This is something I was going to ask, if the artist knew what geocaching even was?

Who’s idea was it to even have a graphic artist touch up the orginal winning logo, cuz now it not the original winner.

Why wasn’t the other samples show to the members?

Is it in the bylaws that the BOD has final say over a logo?

        Who chose thr grapic artist?

Why weren’t members who deal in graphic design ask to help?

Maybe a poll should be made if ALL the members like the new logo.

i know there are many proponents of this statement in the WGA masses but those people will all state parallels to other democratic processes. Like marc and others mentioning the presidential election.

The difference between those things and this topic is this topic CAN be revisited. They really aren’t the same thing at all. There are no “rules” governing how the WGA picks their logo. Show me in the bylaws anything regarding how we should choose our logo…. We are after all a club. A group of hobbyists with a website and a couple of events. If you look at it that way, there’s really no big reason not ask the group how they feel and if the group feels a certain way then we should revisit. It’s pretty simple.

No tshirts have been printed right? Did anyone change any letterhead?

Go ahead and flame and argue but I really think that this could be up for revisit if the group wants it to be.

So here’s an idea to satisfy all those who argue that it should never be revisited. Let’s have a formal polling of the group. Simple question: Should we revisit the decision on the new logo: Yes or No. If the majority votes no then it stays as is. If the majority votes yes then it’s revisited under the new boards regime. Thoughts?

Do you think that would make a difference? If the poll reslulted in “NO” we would be right where we are now with the same few saying the same things.

I can’t help to think what would have happened if the new logo just showed up one day without ANY input from members… I’m not suggesting that the BOD conduct their business in total privacy. I am suggesting that the BOD has every right to make a decision that they believe is in the best interest of the organization that isn’t covered elsewhere in the bylaws.

I really am on the fence with the whole thing. I dislike the old logo so much that the new logo looks pretty good; warts and all. Either way, I don’t see anything happening until after the elections are over…
