I propose that whoever is ftf has to host a WGA contest in the coming months, to be run in a similiar manner.
05/29/2005 at 2:24 pm #1738050I’m on patrol at Naga-Waukee tonight (6pm) if anyone wants to say hello.
05/29/2005 at 4:23 pm #1738051I think there’s a chance that it is in that park but I Certainly hope were still not here at 6 pm.

05/29/2005 at 8:05 pm #1738052Honors to co-first finders:
CatHunter
Waukesha WizardsI am glad thats over.
I must also mention that in our group, Uncle_Fun interpreted all of the clues and devined the general location, but the coordinates told all.
My best guess was off by 6 miles: AKA ‘The Great Pumpkin’.
But I still get a hat.
Please check the ‘For Sale’ board: new item to appear shortly.[This message has been edited by jthorson (edited 05-29-2005).]

05/29/2005 at 9:40 pm #1738054I wish I would not have gone shopping, I got back at about 2:00pm and saw the coords had been posted. I know the service drive to access that back section of the Nature Center so I got to the location pretty quick, but not quick enough. Several teams beat me. Oh well I got a runner up prize and so did Folk Trackers who arrived about 2 minutes after I did. There was one consolation prize left when I put it the cache back.
I left and went to the front lot of the Center and saw Waukesha Wizards. He told me all about his race to the final. I mentioned I noticed the totem poles yesterday, but the park near them is really small and didn’t seem to fit the clues. I did a head slap when I saw it was the nearby nature center. Even if you knew the final was at Retzer, it is an awful lot of ground to cover. The Retzers left a very generous amount of property to Waukesha County for conservation purposes.
Oh well, still had a fun time working on this adventure. Thanks Magellan.05/29/2005 at 9:47 pm #1738055Good Times.. Good Times
Beat by Cathunter and the Waukesha Wizards by 10-15 minutes or so.
Not 10 minutes after we decided to keep busy w/ a 4/4 cache in Paradise Springs do we get a msg w/ coords. 😛 Needless to say we were somehow able to re-route ourselves to the Nature Center within an amazingly short time (The gps has a top speed listed at 116MPH but I’m -sure- it wasn’t that fast), but not short enough
If the coords would have came out the same time yesterday, I would have been about .75 miles away from it 😛
Oh well, still got a hat!!!! Great fun, just wish we would have had a semi solid schedule when clues/coords would be released throughout the weekend.

I finally settled down enough to post my find. I almost got lost on the way home.
My biggest fear the whole weekend was that JThorson would have it before the coords came out. This was my first time exploring that area, and that was my initial intention.
We spoke of a Wisconsin game some time ago & it has always been in the back of my mind. http://www.wi-geocaching.com/forums/Forum8/HTML/000275.html
Can you hear the gears turning? Somebody pass the gear oil!
05/30/2005 at 12:09 am #1738057Great job Cathunter! We had a great time finding the cache with you. Put me down for a yes for your event coming up.

Just wait…. I’m thinking the co-finders need to co-chair the event.
Summer is all too busy…. a late fall adventure may be in order.

05/30/2005 at 3:07 am #1738059Way to go to everyone who was able to find this cache today. If last year was any indication. The container was in place for at least a couple of days after. So others can still go find it. But there are no consolation prizes left. I grabbed the last one at about 5pm.
Hope that my post about the contest helped get some teams involved that may not have seen it otherwise. Although it probably cost me a FTF.
Have a great rest of the weekend.
05/30/2005 at 5:47 pm #1738060I’ve uploaded one of the 3 images I took when we found it. http://www.wi-geocaching.com/cgi-bin/slide2/album.pl?photo=00000079/magellansm.jpg;photo_height=500 I’ll upload the other two after a week or so incase others are going to go look for it.
Sad enough, with all the excitement I failed to take a picture of the surrounding area. Just close ups!
oh well, some is better than none!

06/01/2005 at 4:21 am #1738061Congrats to FTF! That’s two years in a row that the ecorangers were out of state when this contest came through. Tami
06/01/2005 at 12:20 pm #1738062They must do that on purpose Tami!
Maybe one of the hides will be in West Bend area!(with the Evil Monkeys!)
06/08/2005 at 2:05 am #1738063This contest was a hoot and a half. If it were not for an alarm call which made me leave the computer briefly I may have had a shot at a first find. Oh well there is always next year. I still managed a hat and keychain.
