New meaning of paperless…

For $200 you can get an iPod Touch (saving you $150) and get all the extra benefits of having this second device. Originally I was an anit-Apple person but have fell in love with the iPod that I use for caching. Tack on the ability for audio book in the car, a few other miscellaneous apps and it’s a great add-on to a standard GPS if you’re comfortable with what you have.

I love my Etrex Venture HC. Usually the coords are spot on and so as long as I have my phone with me for the GDAK app as well as my Nuvi with the cache info on it from the Pilotsnipe macro, i’m good to go.

I don’t think I’ll ever get a high end GPS that has all those bells and whistles. The only thing bad about my current GPS is accuracy in heavy foliage. But I’m happy with it otherwise.

If I was looking for a replacement for a Palm, I would use Cachepoint for Android. It uses PQ’s and does not use the phone or GPS. It is a nice program for paperless Geocaching. 😀

I switched to a Oregon 450 last year and haven’t used it since. 8)

I use cgeo on my phone, but not for actually finding the cache. I’ve been using it both as and additonal source of cache info out on the trail and to log the cache as found (or not found) in the field. If you are interested I’ll be teaching a class on using cgeo for the Android phone/tablet on Sunday at the Geocacaching Continuing Education Event.

I thought about teaching a class on introducing cachers to GSAK as well as the android app GDAK. Surprisingly a lot of cachers don’t know about GSAK.

The issue is I’m still on GSAK 7. I’ll have to upgrade so I can learn to use 8 before teaching it.

Cachepoint? I will have to check that out. This thread has been so helpful. I just downloaded GSAK this morning on my new computer and I think I have to reregister or something, jahnfamily told me you have to do that?

You can just use the same registration number on your new computer that you used to register on your old one. Clyde is fine with using the program on as many computers as you want as long as you own them all. If you don’t have the number, there is a way to get it, but I don’t remember how to do that exactly. If you look a bit, I’m sure you’ll see something about how to do it.

Just get a gps like the 450T. It’s everything you need and gets the job done. That’s all I need and it’s just a one time cost. I don’t own one of those fancy phones. Every month you pay big time, plus those apps. Happy Caching

I’m using an app on my iPod Touch called Geo Bucket.
It was free (I’m still too cheap to pay $10) and you can use it offline. We don’t have a cell phone, so I was limited to something that could be used offline. I’ve been liking it a lot. The first couple of days, we brought along the old binder. Just in case. We didn’t need it at all! We’re finding that outdated cache printouts are a thing of the past!
