I expect my gift Garmin Legend to appear on my doorstep sometime this week, and I really would like to learn how to use it without consulting my spouse, son, or grandsons. Could you direct me to a person/place in the Madison area where I could get some face-to-face instruction? Many thanks. Since this is my first attempt at communicating, I’m not certain whether my email will appear on this message, so here it is: jgkrikel at wisc dot edu.

    Hi Paulsmom!
Welcome to the WGA forums. I started with a Legend and was very happy with it. Actually I’m back to using it full time because my primary GPSr is in the shop.

You may very well hear from someone who lives closer to you offering assistance, but if you ever want to get some help or do some cache hunting over towards Fort Atkinson, just let me know. One thing you could maybe do is to call around to places like Gander Mountain. They should have someone that could help you get started with your unit.

    Welcome to Wi- Geocaching.

I think you will find local geocachers more than happy to give you assistance. You have called and they will come. Sorry. Couldn’t resist.

Welcome to the WGA forums. You will find that there are some fun local cachers in the area…

Feel free to email us at b_and_us at yahoo dot com to get together. We would be happy to take you out on some fun hunts!

Another place to try for instruction is REI. (Near West Towne Mall.) I don’t have a Legend myself, but I just got out the owner’s manual and played with my Garmin to get used to how it works. I love the screen with the arrow that points the direction I’m supposed to go, lol.

I’m just NE of Madison and would be happy to show you around some local caches if you want. I don’t post my email addy publically because we stupidly put our last name in with the email addy and are too lazy to change it everywhere now, lol. You can just leave a note for me here if you like.

Or, if you just want to try the thing out, but would just like someone to recommend some area caches, we could do that too. There’s definitely some that are easier than others!!!

Thanks for your response. The Legend came yesterday, and I will spend the rest of the week reading the manual, etc. If you are willing to send me an email message, I could contact you for a future meet. Thanks.
