I don’t know if anyone has been watching the development of the Newton Blackmour trail, but the first stretch between Oneida and Seymour and a few more miles to the west is now open. Eventually the trail will stretch to New London, for a full 23 miles!

This looks like a great all purpose, all-season trail…and that means hiking-caching, biking-caching, and snomocaching. 8)
The trail is NOT managed by the DNR but, rather, by Outagamie parks.

It’ll make finding those benchmarks that much easier now!!
Last time I was in the area, I was with Marc and we saw they were dumping and grading the gravel for the trail. Glad to see it’s open!

Well, as I have recently learned the trail is CURRENTLY managed by the DNR, which means you need the DNR form to start. Supposedly the trail will revert to county control at some future point, but I guess you can’t go wrong with filing the DNR form until you’re told otherwise…

I’m sure this will eventually be just like the Wiouwash trail, the Wild Goose trail, and other newer state trails, in that the maintenance of the trail is conducted by the county parks organization, even though the ownership of the trail is with the DNR. In those cases, the DNR form is sent to the county parks department, who are the “responsible land managers”. Fortunately, we don’t have to wait for them to return the form.
