am considering buying a legendC or vistaC (have two meridian golds right now)and was wondering about these units. I have heard that the etrex line looses signal in the woods though i have also heard that the new ones(color) are way better.
i compared both a legend and legendC and the units are differant sizes. the color one is shorter and wider which would make me think that it is totally differant hardware and it maybe true about improved reception.
anyone have any idea about these units? anyone have any pointers for someone who is thinking about getting a garmin for the first time?

the etrex doesn’t have the waas technology, but i believe the legends do. i have the 60c because i wanted the maps and the bigger screen and it works better than the etrex did. but in a comparison between garmin and magellan at one group outing, i have to admit that the magellans were better that day. but on other days, the garmin comes out ahead. and under heavy tree cover, none of them are very good.

never had any problems with our meridian golds under heavy tree cover, though my brother has a sportrak map and it would loose signal when ours would not. the only thing that gets our GPS to get a poor signal is tree cover in combo with hills(deep vallys) I have heard that the quad helix antenna that the Garmin 60 series uses is far better(meridian gold had this for allong time) but my thing is i want a way smaller GPS. i dont want to always take my huge meridian into the woods.
