I have two Garmin GPS III Plus units and a Garmin Quest. III Plus units are for use during trail work and I use the Quest for road use. My question is regarding the III plus unit, are they good enough to start my trek into the Geocache world?

I wish I could help you out there, but don’t know anything about them. Sorry.

The GPS III’s can be used, however they are much more difficult. Once you get below a 10th of a mile, they do not go down into feet like most GPS’s do. Instead of saying 52.8Feet from the Cache, it will say .01 Miles. Once you get used to that, though, they are fair recievers. They don’t compare to the Newer GPS Chipsets though. You may have better luck looking for a 70 Doll etrex legend or something.

    Welcome to the caching world.

The best you can do is just try. See if you like caching with it first. If you have trouble locating caches listed a 2 stars difficulty or below, you may then want to update to a newer GPS. Now is the time with all the sales. Plus, I bet lots of folks here on this site, got new GPS’s for Christmas. Maybe you can find one of those lucky people to sell you their old unit?!?!?
