After a prolonged discussion, the WGA Board of Directors approved the following logo design concept as the new WGA logo:

The WGA contracted with a graphic artist to produce a number of variants of the “WGA in block letters” logo design idea submitted by Cheesehead Dave. (This was the design idea that received the most votes from WGA members in a 2008 referendum.) A total of 16 different logo concepts created by the artist were considered. Because many were considered good, it was difficult for the Board to come to a consensus on what would be best design for the organization. A compromise design was found in a second set of concepts submitted by the artist.

The vote was 6-2 in favor of approving concept design #14. Voting in favor were Ralph Edwards, Jennifer Mode, Jeremy Vechinski, Anne Elsenpeter, David Krug, and Becky Waldmann. Voting against were Justin Korpal and Brian Jansen. Brian Geoffrey abstained from voting.

As was outlined in the initial motion that started the search for a new logo, the WGA will phase in the new logo over the course of 1 year. We are still waiting for the artist to provide a print ready version of the logo and other logo variants (no Wisconsin Geocaching Association text, etc.).

It is expected that the new WGA logo will be fully incorporated into the WGA website in February along with a corresponding color scheme change and “freshening” of the user interface to match the new logo. For now, the new logo will be displayed alongside the current logo on the top of all web pages.
