I am brand new to this great experience. As a family we are headed up to Washburn for a week….going to explore Copper Falls, St Peters Dome and look for interesting rocks….we have one of those real tumblers…

Have borrowed a GPS unit in the past but looking to buy one today or tomorrow. Looking at a Garmin CPSx….like the screen….suggestions welcomed. Looks like in the area we live, Madison, REI has about the best selection and warranty…..lifetime..

Anyone have suggestions on great places to look in the Ashland/Washburn/Mellen areas?

    Thanks,
    Nick

52-Pickup – WWF #01 & #02 (Copper Falls) is a great one. It’s a multi where you need to gather information from around the trails around Copper Falls and Brownstone Falls, and the coords you put together will direct you to a microcache in the park.

Invasion of the Flatlanders is also in Copper Falls State Park, and is one of my favorite finds; it’s definitely worth the walk to find these out-of-the-way falls.

Almost Heaven truly lives up to its name. While I haven’t found this cache (which sounds like it’s an easy find very close to the trail), Saint Peter’s Dome is one breathtakingly amazing place to visit. The hike is rough, but it is most definitely worth it.

52-Pickup – WWF #03 (Morgan Falls) is almost certainly missing, but be sure to check out Morgan Falls on your way up to Saint Peter’s Dome; it is a few steps off the main trail. This is a wonderful little (in width, not height!) waterfall.

I hope you get a chance to check these out. There aren’t many caches up north, but the ones there are usually something special. 🙂
