I was hesitant to present this topic in the Candidates Corner Forum because it restricts who can answer to only those currently running for the BOD positions, but one has to start somewhere.
Why doesn’t the WGA have a newsletter anymore, and what are your thoughts of having one once again? It’s been I think almost a year since last receiving one. I would guess that most of the WGA membership does not frequent the WGA website, and therefore miss out on WGA news and opportunities. I haven’t noticed anyone, including current and the prospective BOD members, address this issue in quite some time. If it wasn’t for receiving the WGA newsletter early in my caching career, I don’t think I would have had much awareness of the WGA and its activities and goals.
01/09/2013 at 12:21 pm #1966952in the past, we have attempted to put out a newsletter quarterly, but by the time we have had the info put together, it is no longer timely news or the info has been already been on our front page for a month or two. Lately we have just been using the Home or Front page of the site for upcoming news and the newsletter has fallen thru the cracks.
01/09/2013 at 2:36 pm #1966953I can’t say why it stopped before but I know that I would be happy to help out with putting one out in the future. And I’m not just saying this because it’s in the candidate corner, I’d help whether elected or not. I think Hack is right, not everyone is on the WGA website regularly.

01/09/2013 at 5:38 pm #1966954A good place to also post a newsletter should we decide on one would be the WGA Facebook page. I know someone that is always looking for content.
Note everyone goes to the WGA site, not everyone reads emails and not everyone goes to the FB page but it sure catches the majority of the people.

01/10/2013 at 3:04 am #1966955I think maybe more folks are checking out the WGA page on Facebook more now and they are posting some there. That’s all that I can think of at the moment. I for one very seldom checked the WGA page for anything other than up- coming Events until I was nominated to the WGA BOD. Also I was slow moving into modern times I just went from dial up internet to DSL.
01/12/2013 at 5:47 pm #1966956It’s a good idea but of course it would take someone some time to put one together either monthly or quarterly. It would be neat if there was an easy way to pull data out about new caches placed and divide it into the various geographical regions. I have to admit that I probably would not be the one to accomplish this task but it is a good idea.

01/12/2013 at 7:44 pm #1966957I feel that timely news is very important; however perhaps a periodical collection may not be the most effective delivery. Perhaps we need to look at a different mode of delivery. One such delivery could be by using an RSS feed that members could see as the stories are submitted. Many of you may already be using this type of delivery. I find it to be very efficient no matter what kind of device you use to read it.
01/17/2013 at 5:11 am #1966958A newsletter serves several purposes … informing members what is happening and serving as a historical reference. However, after reading the email newsletter statistics, it might be time to rethink how it is done.
01/18/2013 at 1:01 am #1966959Difficult question because many of the reactions are put it on Facebook or put it on the WGA site. Not all the geocaches visit either of these two regularly. Which can most likely be said for any form of putting the newsletter out there. Just have to pick and choose and decided what would be best for the majority of people. I like the idea of having a newsletter again, I just think a lot more thought would have to be put into this idea. I feel it has great potential if taken on by the board members as something to look into.
