Tuesday Jan. 30 6:00 p.m. Holiday Inn in Rhinelander.
The meeting went well last night. We were able to help the group understand a little more about caching and what makes some cachers tick. 2Stand offered up some great ideas of where some caches can be placed in the Rhinelander area.
The next meeting will include the groups from Boulder Junction and St. Germain too and we will help them take a look at the Geocaching site.
Anyone in the area is invited, cachers, business owners etc. So if you live up here or know anyone who does, come on over for the meeting and add your 2 cents!
If you are interested but can’t come please put your suggestions up here and we will pass them on to the comittee.
Timberline EchoesThe meeting went very well tonight. We had 4 caching teams there to help the others understand what geocaching is all about. They realized they have a lot to learn but they are very willing to learn. We helped them understand that caches can not be set up commercially and they want to do their best to make them regular caches filled with geotreasures that are non-commercial. They are also planning on doing a passport booklet similar to CVE that can be turned in for prizes. They also hope to list businesses on a website that will be willing to give geocachers discounts if they want them. This way the “advertising” part will be totally seperate and only there for those who want to use it.
The first 500 will get a t-shirt. There will also be a FTF travel bug in each cache. They are thinking of adding a new TB each month in each cache. Details are still be worked out but there is a good team of people helping.
Any other ideas are welcome, they are listening.

I’m looking forward to paying you fine folks a visit. I hope there are coins tied into this in some way as that is generally a huge draw to cachers and may be enough to sway fence sitters to make the trip.
After some discussion last night it was decided that they should purchase some already existing coins for this year and then eventually get some minted. There is not enough time or money to get coins minted that are trackable. They were just going to have coins made and did not understand th trackable part… they do now.
I believe the plans for the purchased coins will be prizes for the drawing.
TEThe ones from the Chippewa Falls event were not trackable and I think they were a big hit without trackabliity. But, either way I think coins will be a good attraction.
We will be sure to pass that info on to the group. We did not make the Chippewa event.. so the coins were just collector items like a pin?
How much of a draw do you think t-shirts are? Especially compared to coins or TB’s?

I did not go to the Falls event either, but do have one of the coins (which are awesome looking). I’m not sure that you can beat the drawing power of coins but I’m sure some others will chime in and opiniate.
Thanks for the updates. I am looking forward to returning to your “neck of the woods”! I had a great time last August

Gotta dig a new septic and put a new roof on the cabin — so I’ll be North a lot this summer! I will certainly need some geocaching breaks!

Oh and the travel bug idea is OK but in these parts there are FTF hogs who would clear out every cache as soon as the coords were given out and all you’d have done is give 18 bug tags to one or two groups; a better idea may be to release them a bit at a time……

I agree!! If the intention is to promote tourism in the northwoods, it would be better to release the tags randomly, giving all visitors (whenever they come) a chance to locate a bug tag.

I was at the meeting last night. Good progress was made.
I believe we settled on releasing the travel bugs in waves.

There is a way around releasing the bugs so more people could obtain one. The HBZ series provided coins to finders with a coin at each each cache. It was requested that each cacher take ONLY ONE coin so that everyone had a chance. As far as I know, people were honest and didn’t claim all of the coins. Perhaps Zuma could provide more details as to how it worked out for the series of caches.
