Something on the north end of the state would be nice. Lake Wissota state park near Chippewa Falls is a very nice park. Brunet Island near Cornell is also a nice park.

Never been to Pattison or Copper Falls before but I have heard they are nice places. Most people on the south end of the state probably wouldn’t appreciate the 6 + hour drive though.

Why Hartman Creek in Mid May?
*Hartman Creek is huge – 1200 acres that’s room enough to place a hundred or more temporary caches.
*It offers a wide variety of recreational activities – Boating, swimming, fishing, hiking, camping, horse trails, bike trails and horseshoe pits.
*Hartman Creek is 2 hours from Eau Claire, Green Bay, Madison or Milwaukee and 3 hours from anywhere in the state (think after work on Friday).
*May is the start of the traditional outdoor season in Wisconsin, Memorial Day, Opening day (fishing). Late May brings graduations and weddings. June brings Poison Ivy and mosquitos.

Let’s either agree on Hartman Creek or please make the case for another place or time.

I’ll vote for Hartman Creek as well, and for any weekend except for May 15th.

Ok, ok.. we succumb to GEO-peer pressure…Never been to HC but if it gets this many rave reviews then we must vote for….. Hartman’s Creek!

We have the GPS, now all we need is the tall ship!

The Board of Directors is in the planning process for the campout. There are tons of details that need to be worked out before we will be able to announce the location and date. Hartman Creek has been discussed back when planning the Devils lake picnic. Hopefully we will have more info in a few weeks!

Hey – sounds good to The Green Bay Paddlers. As long as there is a spot to pop up a small camper, knock back a couple barley pops and throw a few steaks on the grill – we’re in! (Oh yeah, we can do some caching too!)

Hartman’s Creek is a nice area. Good idea on shuttling the location around the state a bit… Count us in…

We originally thought about Hartman’s Creek because of its “centralness” in the state. Didn’t realize it was such a big park as the Beast pointed out. It really is all about getting there before dark (after getting home from work) on Friday. Then the entire weekend is dedicated to finding all those wonderful temporary caches!

If it is Hartman’s Creek, that’s close enough to our home coordinates (GEEK) to help out with a couple of the temporaries.

Isn’t it great to be thinking about and looking forward to a beautiful spring weekend filled with caching as the days get shorter and the coldness creeps in?

Yeah! Hartman Creek was the Team GeoPink’s home for a week last year (family vacation) They have great facilities and a rather large system of trails, etc. (Ice Age Trail runs through this park) Consider my vote cast for Hartman’s Creek!

I do however like the idea of putting a later date to the Campout though. Early to mid June would be ideal! Not too many skeeters and warm and dry enough weather! My vote is to bump the date back, but I do also understand that as a newbie I don’t get much pull [ ]

    thanks for this discussion!

All the Hotdogs agree that Hartman’s Creek would be a great park for the campout. Beautiful camping area (although never checked out the group camp), great trails and would lend itself well to caches.
I believe the campout should be kept in May to avoid most of the after-Memorial day tourists. The sites become much harder to reserve then, and more people on the trails.
