Well, this may be a silly question and we’re not sure how to go about getting this information. We just started geocaching over this past Memorial Day weekend (we almost have 100), thanks to Jerry’s Dad and family (my cousin). Now we would like to do this more during the week. Yes, we are hooked 😀 The bad thing is, both of us kinda work crazy hours. Sometimes on the weekends we can’t go out because of work. So we were wondering if anyone knew of any night caches that we can do. Cuz right now we’re trying to find park n’ rides to do. Pretty much anything that is not closed and is still legal. We’ve already been stopped by the police thank goodness we were in a parking lot and he was nice 😛 If anyone knows of any or how to find more we would really appreciate it. We go anywhere from tomah (we have a camper in New Lisbon) Waukesha County (where we live) to Waterford,Milwaukee area (where we work) Thank you so much for any help in this unique situation.

Christy & Tim06/11/2009 at 3:43 am #1909470Have you done “Glow in the Dark” (GC9178) and Glow in the Dark 2 (GCH1QB) yet? Those are both excellent night caches.
Do you have premium membership to create pocket queries? You can search by attribute, like “recommended at night” or “flashlight required.”
P.S. Forum Post #100 woo hoo
06/11/2009 at 4:40 pm #1909471We’ve done quite a bit of caching at night with headlamps along the Root River Parkway and in Whitnall park. I’m pretty sure you can cache Bong at night too. Some of the gates close at dusk but there are plenty that are open. I would look for caches that have a 24/7 attribute.
06/11/2009 at 8:19 pm #1909472Basically, you can do most caches at night. It is harder usually, although some types of camo just shine when hit with a light. One to avoid are:
– Those where the owner posts available hours that don’t include when you are wanting to search. Some city parks have posted hours, others don’t.
– Caches in residential areas
– Some cemetery caches where hours are posted. Cemetery hours are basically set to avoid alarming local residents when they see someone lurking around there late at night. This is somewhat unfortunate, as you are least likely to disturb mourners when visiting at night.
– State parks vary from location to location. I know that Bong wants everybody out at 10PM, but I don’t believe there are any operating hours at the Kettle Moraine or Big Foot Beach. Just check on the DNR website for operating hours.Otherwise, just go for it. If try for a cache and find the area isn’t open, just head for the next one.
06/11/2009 at 9:59 pm #1909473I do alot of the cemetery caches at night. I work 3rd shift so at times I am wide awake on the weekends late at night. I haven’t been stopped yet or has anyone questioned me. But the cemetery caches that I do hit are all out in the country where the chances of people coming near them at 2am are low.
Some of them caches just shine when the light hits them. If they use fishing line to suspend them in the air, your light comes across that line it makes them a lot easier to find.

08/01/2009 at 12:06 am #1909475Thanks to everyone for your information on night caching. We FINALLY went!!! We spent the night in Green Bay and did 3 there. With only one find our last night cache. I was frustrated but Tim never gave up. Thanks to him we made the find. It was a fun interesting learning experience to say the least. Didn’t get much sleep though made the find at 2am. It was worth it though to have a night cache under our belt.
