My sister did something to her computer and is not able to get Internet Explorer to come up. I’m guessing she erased something but I can’t get a browser to open and stay open to download a new one. Anyone have any ideas?
12/03/2012 at 6:09 pm #1966080One of many solutions is to run system restore. It’s on all PC’s. It will restore your system settings to an earlier date when everything was working.
12/03/2012 at 6:37 pm #1966081Tried that but she hadn’t done a restore point before she messed with things so that wasn’t any help. Her email is connected and so is the internet connection but no browser. No software disks either as it came preloaded.
12/03/2012 at 7:20 pm #1966082Have you searched to see if the Internet Explorer program is still on the computer, and she somehow only erased the desktop or task bar icon? For Win7: Click on Lower left Start, enter ‘Internet Explorer’ into ‘search programs and files’ search bar, then click on IE if it shows up as being present.
12/03/2012 at 7:25 pm #1966083As a “plan B”, if you have a SD card or a flash drive, you can download a portable version of Google Chrome or Firefox to it on another PC. Then you will have a browser that can be run on her machine to get to the internet.
Better hurry as you only have until the 21st. ๐

Normally restore points are automatically created, she wouldn’t have had to manually create a restore point. But if you’re sure there aren’t any… and system restore is disabled, then WStemple’s suggestion sounds like the best course of action. AND THEN TURN ON/ENABLE SYSTEM RESTORE for next time. ๐
12/04/2012 at 2:43 pm #1966089Have you tried running the Windows Update program? I’m guessing that should download and install a new copy of Internet Explorer for you.

This one worked. Then I downloaded Google Chrome in case she does it again. Will get the Restore working next time.
Thanks everyone!
