While Trekkin’ was out looking for local caches today, I had already been up since 2AM. Why? I was on a birding field trip in Adams County to learn about and see the breeding Kirtlands Warblers there. As a bonus, others on the second trip told us about a field pond nearby, so off we went to check that out…..
So for me, instead of cache records, today I set a record number of new life birds in one day…..Seven. Two of which are very rare.
Nice change of pace, just wanted to mention that yes, sometimes there IS more to life than geocaching.
Really!
Congratulations Gwyn. I often thought of making a list of the birds I have seen, but unless they are obvious, I wouldn’t know. Especially with those little ones. They never sit still long enough for me to look them up and there is no way I could afford a good camera that takes one of those lenses that lets one see the golf balls on the moon. Maybe when the kids are grown and out of the house.
so did you see a Kirkland’s?
I went to lower MI about 3 years ago and saw dozens in the prime habitat.
BTW, what’s your count?
Marc,
Yes, I had great looks at a singing male (not great photos, however, but that’s always secondary). We heard at least five, but had to switch locations because during the first group’s time at that site, an unattached male found true love and was chasing her around! I know that the DNR folks here credited the Michigan folks with setting the bar for the recovery programs for this species..
My count is pretty abysmal for North America. I think I’m at 232 now. I have not really birded outside my home area much at all. One trip to somewhere like the Arizona border would probably add a third more to my list. 90% of my birds are right from LaCrosse County, though, so I’m kinda proud of that.
Congrats!!
