Would there be any interest in trying to hold a WGA picnic for those that live in the Northwestern part of the state? Anybody willing to help pull something like this off in this area?
06/07/2007 at 3:09 am #1875608Yes, I was thinking of Eau Claire, but if ya have something in mind up in Hayward, that would be cool too. What camp area would you suggest?
I have camped in the KOA in Hayward, and it has a nice pool, but not much of a natural setting.

Well, it all depends if it were to be a camp out or just a picnic/day event.
Other than the KOA, there is not to many other campgrounds in Hayward.
But there are a few smaller State and Federal in the area around the Drummond and Clam Lake areas, including Flambeu State Forest, Copper falls State Park,Amnicon, Brule.Patterson parks. There is a nice little campground near Ojibwa off Hwy. 70 too.
I’ll compile a list of all the campgrounds in the area.
I think that if there was an event in this area(and I do not mean it has to be held in Hayward) that you would draw people from the Duluth and Ironwood, and Ashland areas too. And there are campgrounds around the Siren/Grantsburg area too, but I do not know that area all that well.
Maybe Elf doctor could come up with a few names too. It’s getting late, but I’ll post some more info soon.
06/07/2007 at 3:47 am #1875610The GeoPink Clan would be interested in a campout Jr. type event. I’ll bring the S’mores! 😀
06/07/2007 at 12:13 pm #1875611Summers tend to be busier at work. I just had a medical student from Medical College of Wisconsin arrive. She will be staying in our guest house for 8 weeks this summer so a lot of our free time will be showing her local events. After she leaves in early August, we will be going to Alaska for my nephew’s wedding. The essential point is that our family may or may not (more likely) be able to come to a summer event depending on the date. I was in Eau Claire over Memorial Day weekend and would love to get up to the Hayward area and cache there.
I can check with some friends in Polk County. They have already been planning a picnic event (probably in the St. Croix Falls area) in the near future. I was planning on posting that event here when it is published.
06/07/2007 at 12:41 pm #1875612😆 If you have children, it’s easier for us to attend a campout/picnic event during the summer. If you are a school teacher, it’s a double bonus! Tami
06/07/2007 at 3:30 pm #1875613I’d be interested in attending if the dates work etc. I’m also in favor of Hayward. Great area. Living in Superior its a little easier to get to than Eau Claire area. Just my .02 Thanks…
06/07/2007 at 5:38 pm #1875614What a great idea! I know Pattison SP and Copper Falls SP have camping plus very nice and Large picnic areas if it’s just a day event.
06/07/2007 at 8:53 pm #1875615I believe the greatest concentration of caches between Eau Claire and Superior is in the Hayward area, so that is why I was suggesting Hayward. Instead of a lot of (controversial) temps, there would be sufficient permanent caches to keep folks busy.

06/07/2007 at 9:10 pm #1875616If you host it… I will come. As for a location, somewhere in the vicinity of pg 104 in the Wisconsin Delorme book would be great!!! 😛 I have this overwhelming desire to visit page 104. I can’t seem to figure out why? 😯
06/07/2007 at 9:57 pm #1875617For those interested in what kind of caches are around this area, the zip code is 54843 for those who would like to do a search. Maybe I could have my murder mystery cache done buy the time this event could happen.
Here is a link to the search page.

06/08/2007 at 12:07 am #1875619Looks like plenty of interest. I think Hayward Cheezehead and I will be working together on something along these lines. It will be impossible to please everyone, but I think that is the advantage of multiple regional events. If one doesnt work for ya because of location, or date, ya have others to choose from.
Anyone who would like to be involved in planning this, just let Cheezehead or myself know, and we will work something out.
thanks for all the interest.

Cool. You are one of many cachers that I have not yet have the privelege of meeting, but would like too.
Interested in hearing viewpoints on the KOA in Hayward. As I said, it has a good central locaton and a wonderful solar heated pool. It is however a KOA with all the commercial camping junk that you would imagine at a KOA.
One cool idea might be to have caches along the Namekagon. You can tube down the Namekagon, near the KOA and the KOA even rents tubes and goes down to the other end to pick ya up. Nothing is finer in the heat of summer than tubing down the Namekagon. Just an idea. Perhaps lame, perhaps not.
Looking forward to other alternative locations that Cheezehead can suggest.

06/08/2007 at 12:28 am #1875621We would be very interested as long as it does not happen when the UP has theirs the first weekend in August or our church campout the second weekend in August.
