I have been in contact with Northgal, who lives in the Minoqua area, she is currently trying to find a place to hold the event. The date looks like it will be Sunday October 5.I said there would be about ten people from down here plus people from up there. Is everyone still interested?
09/04/2003 at 1:40 am #1745758ouch…probably the only weekend in Oct. that doesn’t work for us…darn…would LOVE to meet more people from “way up Nort ya know…ya hey you betcha” (I grew up -up there I can get away with saying that…hehehe). We understand if that is the weekend, but we just couldn’t make that one. If it is that weekend….have a great time as it is beautiful country up there!
Rhonda of WISearchers09/04/2003 at 3:53 am #1745759We’ll be trying to organize something in the Eau Claire area when Lil Otter passes through. Perhaps you can make that one instead, Rhonda. Not as pretty as further north, but closer. – BnB

Yes, October 5th is the day I was planning on holding the breakfast. If Northgal wants to take over the planning, that would be fine. If she doesn’t want to commit to it, let me know so I can take over again.
I think Paul Bunyon’s will probably be closed for the season by Oct 5th. If not, they are only open on weekends.
Another place is theWhitetail Inn on Hwy 70 in St.Germaine. They have an awesome Sunday brunch. They have a HUGE dining room and a all you can eat buffet for $11.00. It’s kind of pricey, but imagine all you can eat prime rib, made to order omlets, waffles as thick as a cake. The building is a huge log building. Logs about 24″ in diameter. Beautiful animal mounts inside. A-1 facility. I’m sure they can accomadate our group. I would call ahead an make sure they still have the Sunday brunch.
I vote the Whitetail !!
Here is a link to the Whitetail inn’s website

09/04/2003 at 1:30 pm #1745761Doh!!, just called the Whitetail, they closed the Inn and it’s for sale. Guess that’s out of the question now.
09/05/2003 at 4:04 am #1745762That weekend’s fine with us, but we were thinking making a camping weekend of it, not just a Sunday brunch. Pack an extra blanket and snuggle closer. Anyone else for camping?
09/10/2003 at 3:12 pm #1745763Ok everyone, I’ve posted an event page for the Northwoods Geo-breakfast
Seating has been reserved at Ella’s Restaurant in Arbor Vitae, for 8:30 AM, Sunday October 5th. The restaurant is a few miles north of Minocqua. I’ve reserved 15 seats for now.
For those fellow WGA members who are driving up for the breakfast, I’m planning to have a grill out at my cabin. I’ll be cooking up some burgers and brats. Depending on the amount of interest, we could grill out Sat night or Sunday night.
Contact me if your interested in grilling out so I can work out some plans for food. Coordinates for my cabin cook-out would be available the day of the breakfast, or by private email 🙂
Hope to see a bunch of you there!

Phone 715-453-518909/25/2003 at 12:37 am #1745767I just wanted to bump up this thread since the Breakfast is soon approaching. Don’t forget to add a note to the cache page if you plan on attending.
I’m planning on hitting a bunch of caches Sunday after Breakfast. If anyone is interested in teaming up, we can try to find a bunch of them during the day.
Grill-out Sunday evening at my place if anyone is interested.

10/06/2003 at 4:15 pm #1745768Wow, what a beautiful day in the north woods. Thanks to all those who were able to attend the breakfast. It was great meeting so many new people.
We had 15 people at breakfast. The food was good and the service was great. After breakfast we chatted for a while and then many of us went caching. I personally teamed up with Geoffnsara and Trudy and the Beast. We put the 4×4 trucks to the test and hit some very secluded caches in the area, placed by upnorthdoc.
The weather was a balmy 50 degrees, not a cloud in the sky, and the leaves were about 20% color. It was an absolutely beautiful day to be out caching.
At the end of the day, many of us gathered at my cabin for a bonfire and food. We had a great time talking over dinner.
Again, thanks to all those who came. It was fun meeting everyone!

Thanks for hosting this great event. Trudy & I can’t tell you how much we enjoyed the breakfast, cacheing and the campfire dinner. What happened to lunch? We only hope these old folks didn’t slow the rest of you down too much. We know it would have been nearly impossible for the two of us to get in to those caches without your 4WD and knowledge of the area. Thanks again for a wonderful time.
10/07/2003 at 2:38 am #1745770I too was lucky enough to enjoy the fine company of some great cachers (and a few fine people too). I opted to head further north after the feasting to check out the beautiful fall colors from the middle of Trude Lake. Thanks to GrouseTails for bringing me back to the area after a 20 year absense.
10/10/2003 at 5:01 am #1745771I had a blast.. it was my first breakfast (honestly..I don’t normally eat breakfast or am awake at that time).. Thank you so much, GrouseTales for bringing us all together up in the woods. Sorry I missed the feast around the campfire.. I was in Pestigo by the time I checked my watch and realized by the time I backtracked.. the fire would be out (grins)
