Ginger the GeoDog died in the back seat of our car as we drove north to our cottage Friday evening. She was a little over 13 years old, and had been slowing down considerably recently. But it still came as a great shock. We’ve had her since she was 6 weeks old.
She did her last cache with us just a week ago, and probably was in on about 100 of our cache finds.
It’s a sad weekend in our household. It is amazing how an animal can become a loved member of a family. We are very thankful for the happiness that Ginger brought into our lives, and will miss her a lot.
Thoughts and prayers will be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m so sorry to hear of your loss. I know we think of our pets as family. It is always so hard to get through the loss. Bob and I had to have our first dog put to sleep at age 12 and it was very hard. We loved him like a kid. He was our kid. My heart goes out to you at this time.
Pat11/05/2006 at 2:37 pm #1766758No matter what anyone says, our pets ARE a big part of our families. They give us unconditional love, depend on us, and support us. I’m sorry for your loss.
11/05/2006 at 2:40 pm #1766759My thoughts are with you. Remember you are never alone and Ginger will still be with you while you are caching. She is still a part of your hearts being carried with you at all times.
11/05/2006 at 3:13 pm #1766760G&G, you have our deepest condolonces. Part of the Sean Connery team is Alex the geodog. We do not cache without her. She is a 10 year old Brittany. As others have said, our pets are our family. We are so sorry for your loss.

11/05/2006 at 11:57 pm #1766766The death of a pet like any other friend or family member brings grief in proportion to the love you have for this precious part of your life. We are only able to endure this pain with the comfort we get from our memories of this loved one and the condolences of our friends. Our sincere wish is that your memories and our words bring you peace. T&tb

11/06/2006 at 5:25 am #1766768Geodogs are a huge part of the geocaching family. (Sammy the Wonderdog is a big part of Team Puck Stop.) The toughtest thing about owning a dog is knowing that their life span is so much shorter than ours. But the joy and companionship they bring is unmatched. A wise person once said
“Acquiring a dog may be the only opportunity a human ever has to choose a relative.”
