Each year I see proposals to the WGA board from the WGA members such as park benches, or a GPSr loaner pack for those doing classes and the alike. yet, all I see on the outside is a few post on the forums saying the WGA board will discuss this issue.
What is your take on why things are not happening and how are you going to change it?
01/23/2008 at 11:53 am #1883761Well as I have not been on the BOD yet, I really can’t speak as to what really goes on in the BOD forums or what is or is not voted on. My assumption is that these things were discussed…
A big part of the agenda this year I think for all candidates is for the WGA to begin to publish meeting notes and vote results. This is really important to the membership as we as a group will be able to see what is really going on. I too have made several suggestions to the BOD and I have no idea if they were discussed or not or why my ideas were shot down.
So, what would I do to change this? I would work to get some better disclosure to the membership about BOD votes and discussions. That said I’m sure I’m not alone in this stance as this is an aspect of the organization that has been overlooked until recently and now is time to remedy.
Once we get some better disclosure we can work as membership to question the decisions made by the BOD. We will be able to ask, “Hey board member X what were your reasons for turning this proposal down?” Disclosure is a big part of moving forward as an organization. We might in fact find that some of our great ideas weren’t so great after all.
….let me also add that as it has been stated already, getting a good set of meeting notes can be a daunting task as most of the business conducted by the WGA I imagine occurs in the form of multiple and ongoing online discussions. That being the case reporting the minutes becomes much more difficult than if there were say a weekly or monthly meeting. So while I’m sure the WGA will make an attempt to get more information out we as a membership need to also be understanding about the difficulty involved in reporting.

If we come to a decision to go ahead with the proposal, we try to act on it as soon as possible. If the decision is made that the proposal will not fly, I like to get back to the proposer and let him or her know the decision. And then there are some proposal that have been tabled — giving the board time to think on the subject for a bit.
And of course, if you are wondering what the status is on any particular issue — all you have to do is ask!
I think by posting meeting minutes you will all be able to see where we are on some of the proposals.

Yep I have no doubt that if directly asked your smiling WGA BOD will answer your query. I think that more often than not (and I know I am guilty of this) people assume that just because a subject is floating around on the forums it has gotten the attention of the board. This I’m sure is not always the case. If we have questions or suggestions they need to be directly asked of the BOD in an email in order to assure it will get addressed. I think doing so would go a long way in resolving nagging questions we hold about what is going on with a particular subject.
01/24/2008 at 12:09 am #1883765I beleive that the publishing of the meeting notes, and Minutes, will alleivate some of these minor concerns. If elected, I will make this a Priority.
