For the event I’m hosting in Port Washington, the business district has agreed to give me budget to get pin on buttons made.

    As a geocacher would you:

    (a) Prefer a button that commemorates the event?
    (b) Prefer a button that more generically references geocaching?

I’m open to the opinion of anyone, even if they don’t plan on attending. I’m having trouble deciding because (a) is more of a keepsake from the event, but (b) would have higher cache trade item appeal.

    Event specific.

I love having keepsakes from events I go to or places I’ve visited. (I am waering my Cache In – Camp Out shirt as we speak )So I would vote for event-specific.

I do use buttons as caching swag tho. I recently bought a supply of Geocacher’s Creed buttons from BumbleButtons and have been leaving them hither and yon. One thing that’s important for this is to put them in a little craft baggie first so they don’t get rusty.

Yes, they have great buttons. In fact that’s who will be making the event buttons. Very nice lady to work with.

I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but I will say that one of our favorite trading items that we have picked up in a cache was a button that said something like “I use multi-billion dollar military satellites to find tupperware in the woods. What do YOU do?”. Probably an old joke by now, but we all thought it was hilarious and in fact both kids took turns to wear it to school.

Ron, I would go with the “event specific” button. I don’t know if we’ll make the event, but it sounds like a lot of fun – good luck!

I like the event button, but then again I collect buttons and pins. I agree that a general GeoCachng button has a higher trading value, but I like STUFF that is a rememberence.

Thanks all, for sharing your opinions.
    “Event Specific” it will be.

I believe the design will include a ship’s wheel and a lighthouse …

… or is it “light house”, or “light-housed”? Maybe I’ll go with a flashlight … or is it …

Is there a link for this event yet? I’ve been working and haven’t been on much lately.

Yes! And you better come! (Ok, Please Come.)
It’s on the “Events” page of THIS Website, as “Port Washington Harvest of Caches EVENT”. http://wi-geocaching.com/events

Are dogs allowed at the park and the event? I’m not sure if we will be able to make it, but if so, geopup Midnight would love be part of it.

Regarding Dogs at the event …

Should be no problem. This event is not really being held in a park. It’s along the city streets, marina, beach and woods of the city of Port Washington, WI. People walk their dogs around here all the time (including the beach area). Of the 18 hides for the event there would be only 3 exceptions … 2 are inside local businesses (so just have the dog outside) and one might make your dog nervous because of the surroundings (again someone could hold the dog nearby for a few minutes). Also none of the caches are dependent on the rest (no multi or mystery caches), so you could choose to skip those 3.

There’s even a small “Dog Zone”, complete with it’s own fire hydrant and “Doggie Post”. It’s APPROXIMATELY Here: N43 23.253 W87 52.043 (based on my map software, not GPSr reading). But I think you need to still clean up after Midnight. (Midnight your dog, not Midnight the time)

Seriously…thanks for the link. We’ve got the date clear so far…hopefully it will stay that way.

We did the highway 100, 100 on bikes and loved it. W/ all that’s going on that day, would bikes be in the way here?
