THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO MY PREVIOUS POSTS A MONTH OR SO AGO.

Now that I have my ‘second’ Oregon 450, (1st was defective), free, quick replacement & new unlock code, I have learned much more about this unit.

After spending more than 4 hours on the phone to Garmin Software Tech support, (where they access your computer remotely), they told me the following: (Please contact Garmin for verification, don’t hold me responsible if something goes wacky on your unit).

–Positively install the latest BETA software 3.71 & 4.48 GPS software. (Note that Oregon 450 has had 3 software updates in only a few months. 3.50, 3.51, 3.52 and now the Beta, 3.71). This latest BETA edition has been on “hold” since 16 July. Garmin software techs do grudgingly admit there are ‘software glitch problems’ with the 450 & I assume this covers the rest of the new Oregons too.

–Contact Garmin software tech support via E-mail if glitches appear when using the 3.71 Beta. I had one, (no roads showed on my maps), hence the new device. CNNA V. 2011.10

–I reminded them about the short production time of the Colorado & asked them if that was possibly due to ‘glitches’ & again they grudgingly said “sort of”.

So Oregon 450 is NOT out of the woods yet as a perfectly functioning unit. Stay tuned.

Still would like a bunch of Oregon 450 users to reply so we can discuss.

    Thanks,

Have the 550 with the Beta version, and have no problems as of yet, except it locks up once and a while when I hook it to the Car power cord.

I have the 550 and it’s only had a couple glitches here and there but nothing major that I’ve seen. Not sure what major issues your seeing in yours…

We have the 400t and the 550. We have had zero problems with the 400t and the only problem with the 550 has been an occasional lock-up while using the camera. Both are running whatever software the online updater put on them and they have been upgraded once or twice since buying them.

Not sure if there’s a reason why the 450 would be having problems versus the 400 and 550.
