Hi all,
I’D LIKE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH OTHER “OREGON” owners to get questions answered. My dime on the phone calls and all done at your convenience.
Received my new Garmin OREGON 450 two days ago. (Right now, buy.com has a pretty good deal for the device & City Navigator North America NT software). With the $50 Garmin rebate, no tax and free shipping on ‘both’, I couldn’t resist.
I’m near the Madison area and will share info with others: ie. how to set up the ‘welcome’ screen, power and operate the device from a computer and 12 volt power cord suggestions.
Please E-mail me through my profile and I’ll contact you.
Thanks, Bob, half of team seekers8711

05/30/2010 at 4:15 pm #1929930I just got my 400t yesturday and im very excited to learn all it has to know.. Can you move the icons where you want to. I would like the geocaching icon on the front slide
05/30/2010 at 10:21 pm #1929931you can move the menu icons around, it is somewhere in the setup menu, found out how to do it from the wiki
05/30/2010 at 11:58 pm #1929932You may want to check out the “additional resources” I list at the bottom of my Oregon review at my “blog”:
Most of the rest of what I comment on in the review you probably already know if you spent as much time as me researching your purchase.
05/31/2010 at 12:36 pm #1929933I’ve read the section o Whereigo’s and have went to the site and still can’t figure out how to load a whereigo on to the oregon. (MORON I AM YA)
05/31/2010 at 3:40 pm #1929934I have owned my Oregon 450t for a couple of months and find it very user flexible. As far as moving icons around here is what I found:
1. Select the profile you wish work in.
2. Go to Main Menu button.
3. Press the first icon you wish to move.
4. Press the second icon you wish to move. These icons will trade places.
5. Continue as needed.Good luck.

I have only done this once, but I think once you download the whereigo from the whereigo website ( not the GPX file ) You just drag and drop it into the whereigo folder on the Unit.
I have had my Oregon 450 for 2 months now and LOVE IT. would not recomend anything else for the series cacher ( except the 550 with the camera). Between the sites mentioned above and just playing with it I am familer with it so any other questions I am sure i can help or someone else can 🙂
06/02/2010 at 2:33 pm #1929936I do have the 550….(most) everything is folder driven and drag and drop. Feel free to PM me with any questions….not sure if you figured out the welcome screen yet …it can be text edited and time of display modified.
06/02/2010 at 3:32 pm #1929937The digital camera on the 550 is handy for a couple of reasons… #1 it takes better pictures than my actual digital camera. #2 it tags the picture with the coordinates and you can actually see the pictures as points on a map which was really interesting on our hike at High Cliff this past weekend. Was neat to see where the pictures were taken in comparison to other known waypoints. The coordinate data stays with the picture file when copied to your PC. You’ll forever know exactly where you took that picture 😉
For me the camera was the main reason I chose the 550.
06/02/2010 at 3:45 pm #1929938I bet having that Camera is handy. The only reason I didnt go with the 550 is I have a cell phone with a good camera that has geo-tagging. If I didnt have this, I would have spent the extra 100 bucks for the 550. Sometime I wish I would have the 550 becouse I always have the GPS with me in the woods, but sometimes I leave the cell phone in the car. Eitherway great GPS
06/05/2010 at 6:21 pm #1929939Why is it when I look at the map veiw my arrow is not on the roads its off.. How can I fix that????
06/05/2010 at 9:37 pm #1929940Depending on what map set you have they could just be inaccurate. I know that happens alot with new roads and even some older ones, just not having the correct data
