Since gc.com was so slow yesterday, we headed out to hide a cache that will be the final for a three part series. We kind of went off half-a**ed, as usual, forgetting to get coordinates for another cache in this same area.
We’d found that cache. Thought we knew where it was. Wasn’t there! So carrying this gigunto ammo can, we kept on walking. Met a couple with their dog, who didn’t see this ammo can—which was amazing!–but did notice the GPSr. So they ask us, “Are you out geocaching?” Well, kinda. “It’s down that way.” Where? They weren’t going to tell us until we explained we’d already found it, but were putting out another one. So we chatted a bit and they gave us directions to find it. They had just found it and are admittedly occasional cachers, who couldn’t really recall their caching name. So, off we went.
We got to the area of that other cache and it started to look familiar. As we’re standing there, ammo can still in hand, another guy comes walking along the trail, and says “It goes back in that clump right there!”
So there we were, yet again explaining ourselves! This guy was not a cacher, but hikes the trail often and kind of takes care of things to keep it nice. He also told us he checks on that other cache to make sure it’s okay and put back where it belongs. We thanked him as members of the geocaching community for acting as its caretaker.
Honest to pete, you think you’re going to sneak out and get something done, and half of the quiet sports folks in LaCrosse County know what you’re up to!
02/06/2008 at 2:49 am #1884200Sooooooo…….this three part series will be available by Saturday….? I do believe I might just be in that area in quest of some FUN caches, a “honey bunz-reducing” hike and excellent company 🙂 . Tell me more!!!
02/06/2008 at 4:09 am #1884201Well, two of them are all ready to go and a-okay. The second one was placed today. Gotta come to the event for first dibs, though! I’m putting the third one out on Thursday. It’s a little bit of a grand tour of the border country, LOL.
Oh, and Trekkin’ has some evil thing planned, too. Park and hunt for a long time is his hope with that one!
See you then!
